It was said on another thread that first word of the Desert Storm air campaign came at 6:41 eastern, during the evening news, and Bush 41 addressed the nation at 7:00 pm.
COuld the war start NOW? We are not in Turkey yet, Blitz's report is on the 7th, but the PERFECT time to attack is between the 28th (Friday) and the 4th. (because of the moon or something) If we want to take them by suprise, wouldnt NOW be the time? And is it possible? Any serious repercussions?

What do ya FReepers think?

It's possible but I doubt it.

It's been repeatedly stated in the previous big thread that the speech is at the American Enterprise Institute, NOT the Oval Office, but people seem to be too busy posting their neat-o jpegs of bombs dropping to notice.
He's not going to announce the war starting from anywhere but the Oval Office.

The "perfect time" to attack Baghdad and take out Saddam Hussein was on 28 February
1991. Instead, we called a ceasefire and Bush the First kicked the can down the road. Clinton kept kicking the can down the road, ignoring the entire situation. Now, Bush the Second (and our armed forces and a current less-than-optimal coalition) has to pay the bill.
Let's finish up what we started and remove the madman from the face of the earth.

I doubt it. I would expect a quick review of Saddam's noncompliance, a brief framing of the issue regarding UN action or inaction, a restatement of America's resolve and America's right to act, a mention of the numerous allies--UK, Spain, Japan, Australia. And also a restatement of the threat Saddam poses, the benefits to the Iraqi people of deposing Saddam's regime, in short, the reasons why we must act.
I think he is preparing us for war, which is coming very soon.

I don't think so, Bush is too determined to wait out the U.N. , which is, in itself, not a great decision to make.
To: bigjoesaddle
I doubt we would have introduced a new UN resolution if we werent going to wait for the results.
I imagine tonight's speech will be a call for support of that resolution, with Bush laying out the case why the UN and the French are a bunch of corrupt, disingenuous scumbags.

No, this isn't the speech that announces we're at war. That one will come in a formal speech to the nation from the Oval Office.

I thought we got approval from Turkey today or something. Or wait...never mind. We got approval from Saudi Arabia to use its airspace.

Thats a good point.
Another question, how will we get the inspectors out and whoever else on our side we want to save without allerting Hussein we are going to attack? Do we actually have to wait until the 7th of March? And have to wait for the UN to pull out. Will Sadam LET them pull out?

Was the speech for the Persian Gulf 1991 War done from the Oval Office? I don't remember.

I think if we go to war with Iraq, Saddam won't allow the inspectors to leave, and make up claims that they are his "guests"
