Joe DiMaggio's birthday today is a great time for me to think about the love of his life and use that feeling to express respect for other women with different talents that I revere. Marilyn was a free spirit. Freedom is at the heart of living a good life. The worse the police state trends in Australia get, the more I love the freedom fighters and the womanly beauty of some of them is no obstacle to making that love and respect stronger. That is how God made us.

In March 1949, Joe DiMaggio posed in Yankee Stadium, smiling, with another famous Italian-American of his era — each in his professional uniform — but their friendship would not endure. On the evening of Nov. 5, 1954, the Yankee Clipper and Frank Sinatra hastily got up from dinner with friends at the Villa Capri in Hollywood and drove to a little apartment house at Kilkea Drive and Waring Avenue. DiMaggio was being divorced by Marilyn Monroe, his wife of less than a year. A private investigator, Barney Ruditsky, had called to report that she was there with another man. When...

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Nearly two years after her death, the family and estate of Rebecca Zahau filed a lawsuit Wednesday against San Diego County authorities, seeking records and other evidence in their quest to prove that the Coronado woman died as a result of a homicide and not suicide, as investigators concluded. Zahau, 32, was found hanging outside her boyfriend's historic Spreckels mansion on July 13, 2011. An attorney for the Zahau family, Marty Rudoy, said the suit was filed against San Diego County, Sheriff Bill Gore and Medical Examiner Dr. Glenn Wagner "to get further information regarding the...

Search warrants reveal that Jim DiMaggio had tortured and killed his two victims before he drove off with the kidnapped teen.... They found the bodies of Christina Anderson and her six-year-old son Ethan covered with tarp, and a crowbar lying next to Christina.... The details surrounding the nature of the bodies are scant, but the fact that the humans were draped with tarp before the firefighters got there- and that there was blood coming from the dog's head- implies that they were all killed before the fire ravaged the home. This comes in contrast to what Hannah Anderson told friends...

For six days, Hannah Anderson was at the mercy of her kidnapper, a family friend who spirited her away to the Idaho backcountry in a blue Nissan Versa. He carried a rifle. He made threats. But he never told her about the gruesome scene he left in San Diego County. Not until FBI agents gunned down James DiMaggio and began to interview Hannah did she learn the fate of her mother and younger brother, authorities said. DiMaggio, they said, killed them on his sprawling property near the Mexican border before setting off with Hannah, 16, and his gray cat. Although...

From our Sports Desk comes this tidbit, from the enterprising investigative journalists who run Page Six of the New York Post. It's about Joe DiMaggio and the Catholic Church, and it ran on March 8, the 10-year anniversary of Joltin' Joe's departure for the Great Dugout In The Sky: "Few people knew how devout a Catholic he was," DiMaggio's longtime friend Dr. Rock Positano tells Page Six. "But he was essentially banned from the church after his divorce from Dorothy Arnold. And he was scolded by Bishop Fulton Sheen for marrying Marilyn Monroe. Sheen told Joe after the marriage dissolved,...

Jewish World Review Oct. 15, 2003 / 19 Tishrei, 5764 Mike Barnicle For DiMaggio brothers, sibling rivalry is immortal- http://www.jewishworldreview.com | He remembers it all. Even today, with the same two teams locked in a total tong war that has dominated their game for decades, he can almost hear the same loud snarl coming from the seats behind the visitors' dugout, a sound that only grew nastier as afternoons limped into evening while the Red Sox dueled New York in the green hollow of Yankee Stadium all those years ago. "Did you hate them? The Yankees?" he was asked. "With...
