Declaration falls through the cracksThe Supreme Court's rare copy is safely tucked away, then forgotten for seven years, a spokeswoman says. By Steve Chawkins, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer January 19, 2008 When in the course of human events it becomes necessary to locate a rare, vintage copy of the nation's founding document, try looking behind the filing cabinet. That was a lesson learned the hard way at the Supreme Court, where a 185-year-old facsimile of the Declaration of Independence gathered dust for seven years, tucked behind the office furniture, a court spokeswoman acknowledged this week. Commissioned by John Quincy...

Georgia Seeks Water Disaster Declaration Saturday October 20, 2007 4:46 PM By GREG BLUESTEIN Associated Press Writer CUMMING, Ga. (AP) - With water supplies rapidly shrinking during a drought of historic proportions, Gov. Sonny Perdue declared a state of emergency Saturday for the northern third of Georgia and asked President Bush to declare it a major disaster area. Georgia officials warn that Lake Lanier, a 38,000-acre reservoir that supplies more than 3 million residents with water, is less than three months from depletion. Smaller reservoirs are dropping even lower. Perdue asked the president to exempt Georgia from complying with federal...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2, 2007 – Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al Sadr’s recent call for a halt to all militia violence in Iraq is a “welcome development,” a Multinational Force Iraq official said during a briefing in Baghdad today. “The Multinational Force Iraq joins the government of Iraq in welcoming Sadr’s publicly articulated commitment to peace,” said Navy Rear Adm. Mark I. Fox, communications division chief for Multinational Force Iraq. “If implemented, Sadr’s order holds the prospect of allowing Iraqi security and coalition forces to intensify their focus on al Qaeda in Iraq and protecting the Iraqi population.” A disruption in...

Happy Birthday The United States has been and still is and will remain for the foreseeable future the greatest nation on the face of the Earth. For a variety of reasons, not simply because of military and economic strength, though those are in and of themselves important reasons since the military and economic force of the United Sates is so often employed in rescuing the helpless, defending the defenseless, and in fights against enemies such as terrorists, who would murder women and children, and oppress and enslave men whenever such opportunities for malignant cruelty arise. The United States of America,...

Our Founders were talented men--and lucky ones too. "You and I have been wonderfully spared," Thomas Jefferson wrote John Adams in 1812. "Of the signers of the Declaration of Independence I see now living not more than half a dozen on your side of the Potomak, and, on this side, myself alone." Jefferson and Adams were not merely signers of the Declaration. Both sat on the committee that drafted the document, and Jefferson wrote it. And while they later became bitter political opponents, they reconciled in their last years.

NOTE: since mainstream media reporters either don't understand Paul v Clinton and the Clinton campaign finance frauds or simply are too lazy to do their homework, we are pleased to be of assistance so that they can do some real reporting. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hillary and Bill Clinton are masters at parsing words. They create just enough doubt so that they avoid legal jeopardy. Finally, however, it appears that Hillary might have made a major mistake. On April 7, 2006, I was in Los Angeles Superior courtroom of judge Aurelio Munoz. On that day, David Kendall, the man who has been known...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. A rare 1823 "official" copy of the Declaration of Independence was sold at auction yesterday in North Carolina for $477,650 by the man who found it last year in a Nashville thrift store for $2.48. Michael Sparks, a music equipment technician, sold the document at Raynors' Historical Collectible Auctions in Burlington, N.C. The opening bid was $125,000 and six bidders were in contention. Most of the bidders were absentee by phone or Internet. The winning bidder was not disclosed. Sparks found his bargain last March while browsing at Music City Thrift Shop. When he asked the price on...

I have the great pleasure and honor to know and work with some very amazing people. They are Americans, just your basic American. What makes them so amazing is that their dedication and passion to their ideas is spent tirelessly in ways to stop our government from spiraling totally out of control. We are facing today, much the same type of elitist government disdain for the people, that our forefathers faced from the King of England. The difference we face is that the Americans of today are too worried about gas prices, stocks, the new "American Idol", and video games...

WHAT KIND OF MINDLESS HORSESQUEEZE IS THIS? I spent the first part of the Independence Day weekend at the Grove Park Inn & Spa in Ashville, North Carolina playing a bit of golf, relaxing and working on "Somebody's Gotta Say It" While there I was treated to several editions of The Asheville Citizen-Times. This is a Gannett newspaper ... same folks as USA Today. Needless to say, the slant is decidedly leftists. That seems to fit in quite well with the Asheville community which, I'm told, is quite proud of its liberal leanings. A quick glance at the letters to...

Renewing our Declaration of Independence July 4, 2006 Alan Keyes As we family, friends, and countrymen again gather in our beloved America to observe the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, let us emulate our Founders in their faithfulness to the truth. Theirs was a bold faithfulness that gave birth to this nation in a time of great troubles and trial--but which brought forth a community of decency and equality which remains the last, best hope of mankind on earth. Let us recite aloud, as we gather, the great words and lessons of the Declaration, and reflect on a Founding...

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, when Americans celebrate Independence Day. But a YouGov survey for The Daily Telegraph suggests that the Stars and Stripes will be flying at half mast in the eyes of most Britons. There has probably never been a time when America was held in such low esteem on this side of the Atlantic. A majority of Britons think American culture and the actions of the present American administration are making the world a worse place to live in, and almost no one believes America is now, if it ever was, a beacon to the world....

by Edward Hudgins, The Atlas Society & Objectivist Center On July 4 we celebrate the creation of the United States of America. Our birth certificate, the Declaration of Independence, reads, "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal." It states that we're each endowed with "certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." It concludes that "to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed." Most Americans give lip service to these sentiments. But how many of us understand...

Reflection.. on all men being created equal. I want to preface this note with one disclaimer... this is in no way, shape or form yet another George W. Bush justification. This clearly comes from the mind of markbureau! I was walking down Peachtree Street in Atlanta today (I am still there, by the way) coming from the Credit Union heading for a bite to eat when this, for lack of a better term, toothless, filthy bum approached me and just shouted .... "End the War, Stamp out Bush".

Let’s see if you can guess who wrote the statement below: "Land, because of its unique nature and the crucial role it plays in human settlements, cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice; if unchecked, it may become a major obstacle in the planning and implementation of development schemes. Social justice, urban renewal and development, the provision of decent dwellings-and healthy conditions for the people can only...

GOVERNMENT BY THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED In 1998, the people of Arizona approved public funding of state political campaigns as a means to reduce the influence of special interest money in our electoral process. A Citizens Clean Elections Commission was created to regulate this public funding program with the power to levy fines and in certain circumstances to require participating candidates to forfeit office for violating commission rules. The Citizens Clean Elections Commission has determined that David Burnell Smith, a participating candidate elected by the voters of his district to the Arizona House of Representatives, has violated commission rules...

Poem penned by U.S. Founding Father discovered in English schoolBy Simon Caldwell Catholic News Service LONDON (CNS) -- A poem written by one of the U.S. Founding Fathers has been discovered in the archives of a Catholic high school in England. Charles Carroll of Carrollton, one of the signers of the 1776 Declaration of Independence, wrote the poem in Latin in 1754 when he was a student in his final year of high school in Saint-Omer, France. It was found in the archives of Stonyhurst College in Clitheroe, England, by Maurice Whitehead, a professor at the University of Wales, Swansea,...
