True, pro-Bush bloggers may have been more suspicious than those who think Bush spends his days leashed and curled at Karl Rove's feet -- but they were right, and that's what counted in the end. If partisanship made some unusually suspicious, might it also have made others unduly credulous? Naaah. There's no evidence the critics were right, you know. The CBS report can't bring itself, even now, to say the documents were unquestionably bogus. Rather himself told the investigating panel that "no one had provided persuasive evidence that the documents were not authentic." This is like floating in the North...

anuary 11, 2005 -- EXCLUSIVE WASHINGTON — The criminal probe into why former Bill Clinton aide Sandy Berger illegally sneaked top-secret documents out of the National Archives — possibly in his socks — has heated up and is now before a federal grand jury, The Post has learned. The "Socks Docs" probe forced Berger, who was President Clinton's national security adviser, to step down as Democrat John Kerry's top foreign-policy adviser last summer. "It may have been off the front pages, but the investigation has been active," said a source with knowledge of the probe. "[Berger] has been interviewed several...

In 1993, I had lunch with The Wall Street Journal's editorial-page editor, Bob Bartley, to discuss launching what he envisioned as a contrarian column. With Bob, who passed away a year ago, small talk never was easy. But he was very smart and had lots of views about column writing and what would work. It made sense, I replied, but noted there were areas where I shared the editorial page's viewpoint, free trade for example. "In all due respect," my taciturn luncheon partner replied, "if I want a column on free trade, I can do better than you."

I just read John Kerry's Silver Star citation and almost fell out of my chair. Having served at one time as an "awards and decorations officer", which is an additional duty assignment for staff officers, I know full well how these citations can be colored and worded to change an "oh no!" into a "attaboy." That is what happened with Kerry's situation. He probably would have been disciplined for endangering his boat and crew, but instead, because of his political connections, they gave him what is known as a "coverup award." One of the oldest tricks in the military book...

Released: November 08, 2004 Mea Culpa: I am a Pollster, Not a Predictor By John Zogby Okay, I got it wrong. And I got it right. Last May, I did indeed say that John Kerry would win and, if he didn’t, it would be his fault. Please understand that I wasn’t saying this as a partisan but as a historian of elections. I did not have a horse in this race. For those of you so kind to point out that my brother is on the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee, you need to understand that he was...

Don't hate me for it, but I occasionally visit the enemy blogs and I came across a posting that mentioned that Zogby was on the Daily Show and when asked who would win, he claim Kerry. He claimed that Kerry's numbers were up. This surprised me only because just yesterday we all read Novak article in which he (Novak) claimed that Zobgy told him that Busg would win. What gives? Do we care? I'm inclined to believe not...

Despite doubts by watchdog groups about the logistics of being at two events at the same time, Sen. John Kerry did attend both a political banquet in Boston and Game 6 of the 1986 World Series in New York on the same night 18 years ago, according to the Democratic presidential candidate's senior campaign advisor. In interviews with ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine, Kerry recalled his sufferings as a Boston Red Sox fan as Bill Buckner failed to field a ground ball hit by Mookie Wilson with two outs in the 10th inning. The Mets rallied to win that game,...

I was curious to see if I got the same result others reported when I ran the google query "OETR, Bush". Other threads had indicated that they got several pre 9/8/04 hits with the wrong acronym "OETR" instead of the correct acronym "OER", and that these pages were exclusively from DNC or Kerry websites. This, of course, would be strong evidence of conspiracy on the part of the kerry campaign and cBS. The results of the query were all post 60 minutes II airing on 9/8/04.Has Google been scrubbed? Is this something the dems could do on the sly as...

I just heard on the radio news that Sandy Berger has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Apparently the National Archives is saying that all documents have been accounted for. Has anyone else heard this? And no, this should not be posted under humor! I'm serious, I really did hear this on the morning news just now. WMAL 6:30 here in Washington, D.C., the Fred Gandy Show.

Archive E-mail Comments Send to a Friend Print Version Wednesday, June 16, 2004 WHO KNEW? [Jonah Goldberg ] I read Andrew Sullivan's site fairly regularly, as do lots of people I know. In fact, I get some grief from some readers -- and Cornerites -- for paying as much attention to Sullivan as I do. That doesn't bother me. I respect Andrew, consider him a friend and I respect his influence which is an objective fact regardless of my personal attitudes. As even moderate readers of Sullivan's site can attest, his positions of late have been something of a moving...

Shock jock Howard Stern said yesterday that he doesn't expect to last long at CBS Viacom under his new boss, Les Moonves, who'll be filling the void left by departing Viacom honcho Mel Karmazin. "I can't leave right today but, believe me, I'll be gone in a month," Stern told a caller yesterday, in quotes picked up by the New York Post's John Mainelli. Explaining why wasn't leaving right away, he added, "I have a contract and if I walk out they'll sue [me]." The top morning talker has been "viciously feuding for two years" with Moonves, noted Mainelli. Stern...

In a rebuff to the Schwarzenegger administration, Attorney General Bill Lockyer declined Friday to prosecute six officers involved in a videotaped beating of two California Youth Authority inmates. While acknowledging that the guards might have used excessive force in the Jan. 20 altercation at a Stockton youth facility, Lockyer said several factors support an earlier decision by San Joaquin County prosecutors not to press charges. In a carefully worded letter released Friday, Lockyer cited the prior records of the youths and noted that they started the fight and sustained only minimal injuries. Administration officials said they were disappointed by Lockyer's...

We know AL Queda was not high on Clinton's Priority list at the end of his administration. He was trying to shove through mideast piece deal, pardon his criminal donors, and Sadaam was number one on his list. He gave several speeches on Sadaam, don't remember one he gave on Bin Laden

GI Denied Care After Speaking Out United Press International March 3, 2004 WASHINGTON - An Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran says Army officials at Fort Knox, Ky., refused him medical treatment after he talked publicly about poor care at the base, which helped spark hearings in Congress. Fort Knox officials charged that soldier, Lt. Jullian Goodrum, with being absent without leave and cut off his pay after he then went to a private doctor who hospitalized him for serious mental stress from Iraq, Goodrum said. "They are coming after me pretty bad," said Goodrum, 33, a veteran who has served the...

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Pixar Animation Studios Inc. said Thursday it ended talks with Walt Disney Co. to extend a five-picture deal for Disney to distribute Pixar films. Pixar said it would begin talks with other companies to distribute its films starting in 2006. "After ten months of trying to strike a deal with Disney, we're moving on," Pixar CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. "We've had a great run together -- one of the most successful in Hollywood history -- and it's a shame that Disney won't be participating in Pixar's future successes." The move was a clear...

The name change: Why we did it Bucks County Courier Times Our view: We didn't drop Give-A-Christmas in favor of Holiday Fund in a politically correct effort to minimize religion. We changed in recognition of changing demographics and to broaden the fund's appeal. We get it. We really do. We understand why some folks are upset about the name change for our annual fund drive. We've read all the letters - and we sympathize. But replacing Give-A-Christmas with Holiday Fund - a change we implemented last year - wasn't done to minimize the importance of Christianity's most celebrated and joyous...
