Credit: Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences (2022). DOI: 10.1007/s12520-022-01599-y A pair of researchers, one with the University of California, Davis, the other Drew University, believe they may have solved the mystery of why people living during the time of the Roman Empire used lopsided dice in their games. In their paper published in the journal Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences, Jelmer Eerkens and Alex de Voogt, describe their study of dice...

I got a quick question for those who visit casinos. A while back I had the pleasure of watching an experienced gambler play craps at the Orleans Casino. He rolled the dice for nearly 60 minutes strait before "sevening out". After the dust had settled, he made off with 35k in chips. FYI: At that time the table was packed, I wasn't into craps because my favorite game is BlackJack...so no, I didn't get into the action..darn it. QUESTION: How does one do taxes in this situation? Do you have to fill out a tax form at the casino when...

Jaybird knew gambling can be addictive, and he made sure I never became a gambler by letting me gamble. Before long, I was handing over all of my hard-earned weekly allowance to him As a boy growing up on Dad’s Mississippi Delta farm in the 1950s, I looked forward to Saturdays, mainly because I didn’t have to go to school, but also because Friday’s paydays were always followed by Saturday’s dice games. I watched and listened, crouched beside Jaybird, my best friend and mentor. After I grasped the fundamentals of craps, as the old black man called the game, he...

Theodore Whiting, the vice president of surveillance for MGM Resorts, told a grand jury that the chance of the group winning as much as they did amounted to roughly one in 452 billion. Each of the men were indicted on dozens of counts of cheating at gambling and theft, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney J. P. Raman. But Cooper is expected to plead guilty to one count of felony theft. Between July 2012 and July 2014, when the timing was right, Branco and Cooper conspired with Granito and Martin to pay off bets that never transpired,

Friday, May. 29, 2009 Holy Craps! How a Gambling Grandma Broke the Record By Claire Suddath It sounds like a homework problem out of a high school math book: What is the probability of rolling a pair of dice 154 times continuously at a craps table, without throwing a seven? The answer is roughly 1 in 1.56 trillion, and on May 23, Patricia Demauro, a New Jersey grandmother, beat those odds at Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Demauro's 154-roll lucky streak, which lasted four hours and 18 minutes, broke the world records for the longest craps roll and...

The casino craps player is a social animal, a thrill seeker who wants not just to win but to win with a crowd. Unlike cards or a roulette wheel, well-thrown dice reward most everyone on the rail, yielding a collective yawp that drowns out the slots. It is a game for showmen, Hollywood stars and basketball legends with girls on their arms. It is also a favorite pastime of the presumptive Republican nominee for President, John McCain. The backroom poker player, on the other hand, is more cautious and self-absorbed. Card games may be social, but they are played in...
