Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is calling on the popular Internet site Craigslist to stop what he calls "pimping and prostitution in plain sight." Blumenthal sent a letter to the online community bulletin board on Wednesday, asking the site to immediately eliminate photographs in the "erotic services" section, hire staff to screen images and ads that violate the site's terms of service and fine those who violate those terms. He also suggested financial incentives to those who correctly flag ads promoting prostitution.

Craigslist chief executive Jim Buckmaster told a CNN cable TV news program this morning that the company feels terribly that an accused killer in Boston allegedly used the online service to target his victims. "We feel terribly, and it's quite sad that anyone would lose their life," Buckmaster told CNN. "And we're horrified that use of Craigslist could in any way be connected with a violent crime of this nature. It just causes us to redouble our efforts to try to get across to users to take a few common sense precautions that eliminate most of the risks.

A jury found Michael Anderson guilty Tuesday night of premeditated murder in the shooting of a Minneapolis woman he lured to his house in Savage through an ad on Craigslist.
