Craigslist dropping 'erotic services' ads (Caves to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan)

CHICAGO - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says that Craigslist is getting rid of its "erotic services" ads and will create a new adult category that Web site employees will review.

Madigan's office said Wednesday that such existing ads on Craigslist will expire in seven days.

Madigan and the attorneys general for Connecticut and Missouri met with Craigslist officials last week seeking an end to ads they contend are advertisements for illegal sexual activities.

...

Craigslist came under renewed pressure to remove the ads after a medical student in Boston was charged with the April killing of a masseuse he met on the site.

What a crock. However you feel about the services being advertised, Craigslist is no different then the classifieds or the Yellow pages. I believe you can find escorts in both of those. Now all the prostitutes will just spam all of the other categories, which is what led to them creating an "erotic services" category in the first place.

Furthermore, this wouldn't make any difference at all in the case of Phillip Markoff and Brisman. Brisman was advertising as a masseuse so she was presumably "therapeutic services" category.

The chicks on that site are mostly skanky bitches. Plus, the risk of getting ripped off and or stabbed are higher than people think.

Not to mention the sports pages of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Pester people who have listed a car for sale or a room for rent.

Advertising anywhere for a subject where the underlying act (prostitution)is a crime should be prohibited. Yellow pages or newspapers it doesn’t matter.

What next? “

“Talented bank robber with small arms experience and less than 6 convictions needed. Skills in driving getaway car a bonus.”

This will do absolutely nothing. These ads will find a new venue and then another and another so long as the demand is there which it always will be. Personally i’d regulate it like in the Netherlands and quit fighting this losing battle.

Test drive for $200/hour.

LOL!

Riiight. Just because something is impossible to enforce we should waste time and money trying anyhow.

Actually I’ve heard that there are creepy dudes on craigslist that will continue calling and emailing a lister if he finds out it’s a listing from a woman (for some non-sexual sale or business deal).

Oral sex isn’t sex. Therefore you can list it. Just ask Bubba.

No urge is so strong as the urge of the self-righteous and the do-gooders to stop others from having fun and sinnin!

I would be more disgusted with this IF they had not said that they have another section where they will advertise. “erotic services” are not going away they are just placing it in a section where it will be easier to monitor so that freaks like that one dude does not kill again.

“NAMBLA member seeking young trainee.”

Is this the type of want-ad you approve of? (Not suggesting you approve of the crime)

People call me and pester me with lame questions about the Lakers tickets I’m selling.

Q: Where are the seats located?
A: It’s in the ad

Q: Are these good seats?
A: Duh. No.

Q: Where are you located?
A: It’s in the ad.

And so forth. It’s like they’re lonely. ;-)

The sex workers will just move their ads into the "personals" section.

That would be just the ticket. Obama would love the opportunity to define "creepy dudes."
