Megan McAllisters fairytale wedding on the New Jersey seashore has been cancelled, less than 12 hours after her first jailhouse visit with her fiance, who has been dubbed the Craigslist killer.
Plans for the Aug. 14 nuptials and dance on the Jersey Shore are being dismantled, McAllisters attorney, Robert Honecker Jr., told WBZ-TV this morning.
That wedding will not occur, Honecker also told ABCs Good Morning America this morning.
McAllister visited fiance Phillip Markoff yesterday at the Nashua Street Jail in Boston for the first time since his arrest April 20 on robbery and murder charges. And though she had vowed to stand by him, she wasnt wearing an engagement ring and is apparently moving on with her life.
McAllister spent 25 minutes with Markoff at the jail, arriving 12 minutes after visiting hours, Honecker told WBZ-TV.
They had a candid, frank discussion about what has transpired and the events which will transpire in the future, Honecker said.
Honecker said McAllister appeared emotional, but shes also a very bright, articulate, strong young woman and she is beginning to understand that she has to find strength from those around her.
I think this was a big step for her to realize the seriousness of that, the charges her fiance faces and also that she has to get on and take care of herself and the rest of her life, Honecker said.
It was her first visit with Markoff since he was charged with the April 14 murder of masseuse Julissa Brisman. Sources say he collected womens panties that they are now trying to link to the victims, and led a life of sordid contacts online.
Markoff, 23, also has been charged with robbing a stripper at gunpoint at the Westin Hotel and has been linked to a robbery in a Warwick, R.I., hotel. The Boston University medical student was arrested while traveling to Foxwoods with McAllister, 25.
Last week McAllister said she was standing by her man. But yesterday, she wasnt wearing her engagement ring as she left the jail hand-in-hand with her mother, WBZ reported. The station said she has no plans to return to Massachusetts.
Well, I guess he was in love with him and couldn’t believe the worst at first. She may have nightmares about what he may have done to her eventually.
Wow...some women are just desperate. I’m guessing her parents and friends staged some kind of intervention and insisted she distance herself from this creep.
Can't think of anyone else who does that...
She may have dodged a bullet...
At first it sounded like she was hell bent on having a wedding, not marrying him. What do I know, though?
Maybe she can star in a new reality show “Who Wants to Marry a Serial Killer?”
Kind of like “the Bachlorette” but with a different twist...so to speak
At least you and Squantos are still an item!
Guys like Ted Bundy, and maybe this guy, get away with it because their pathology allows them to fool almost anybody, through wit, charm and intelligence.
Nobody though Bundy was a madman until incontravertable proof was presented.
Then again, there’s always the chick willing to thrill-f*(k a murderer. OJ has quite a few.
She’s one lucky woman that all of this came out now.
Thugs attract!
You’re just lealous he has the watch.
Sheesh, jealous.
Dat just ain’t right ....
Remember the Runaway Bride? She ran away from a nice guy. Chicks dig thugs!
Um, SHE needs a lawyer because?
“Shes one lucky woman that all of this came out now.”
That is true.
She seems to be a very good woman to me.
Loyalty to the ones we love is the correct instinctive response.
Of course eventually you have to face reality, and sometimes it is nasty.
Might be the prosecution has expressed interest in questioning her about what he may or may not have told her and she’s just getting some legal advice. And maybe they think she might have played a part in some way. I don’t blame her for seeking legal advice. In this day and age, you never know what everyday event can turn into a big legal battle.
“Um, SHE needs a lawyer because?”
She lived with the accused, and could be construed by some over-eager prosecutor as an accomplice. The charges are murder, kidnapping, and robbery. Would you go without legal advice in her circumstances?
