I have discovered a Win32:Agent trojan resident in a file on my C: drive. It is located in my Thunderbird email files section. Try as I may, I cannot seem to delete this. It appears to be growing in size. I have read a lot about this one and they refer to it as a "sleeper" trojan. How can I remove this trojan? I run Firefox, Thunderbird as email client, XP Pro, Avast & AVG 7.5 Internet Security System, Zone Alarm Pro, along with Spy Bot S&D and Spyware Blaster. Can anyone help with this? Thanks

The computer attacks, apparently originating in Russia, first hit the Web site of Estonia’s prime minister on April 27, the day the country was mired in protest and violence. The president’s site went down, too, and soon so did those of several departments in a wired country that touts its paperless government and likes to call itself E-stonia. Then the attacks, coming in waves, began to strike newspapers and television stations, then schools and finally banks, raising fears that what was initially a nuisance could have economic consequences. The attacks have peaked and tapered off since then, but they have...

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A cheap glue that gets stronger at high temperatures might be useful around the house, but make it 100,000 times thinner than a human hair and you have nanoglue, a sticky substance that could help make extremely tiny computer chips, U.S. researchers said on Wednesday. Developed by researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, nanoglue is made from ultrathin materials that are already commercially available. "It is really mind-boggling to think about a single layer of molecules improving the adhesion of something," said materials science researcher Ganapathiraman Ramanath, whose work appears in the journal Nature....

Within Windows Explorer, we have a folder of jpg images. Right now, we have them displayed as thumbnails. However, something funny is happening. File A thumbnail shows (e.g.) a picture of a tree. However, when we double click on it, and bring up Picture/Fax viewer, we see an image of a person. When we drag that file into PowerPoint, we again see the image of a person. File B thumbnail shows (e.g.) a picture of a person. When we double click on it, or drag it into PowerPoint, we see a different image. What's going on? Seems like the thumbnail...

The scientists ran a "cortical simulator" that was as big and as complex as half of a mouse brain on the BlueGene L supercomputer. In other smaller simulations the researchers say they have seen characteristics of thought patterns observed in real mouse brains. Now the team is tuning the simulation to make it run faster and to make it more like a real mouse brain. Life signsBrain tissue presents a huge problem for simulation because of its complexity and the sheer number of potential interactions between the elements involved. The three researchers, James Frye, Rajagopal Ananthanarayanan, and Dharmendra S Modha, laid...

How can a person from the US, traveling to China (Beijing), send messages inexpensively back to US and vice versa, besides email? Cell phone rates will be $1.50/minute, so I'd like to minimize that if I can. Specifically, - Will AIM or AIM express work from China, or will we have to use ICQ? Is there a way to send AIM messages to a cell phone as a text message rather than to another AIM client? - Does the T-Mobile web-to-cell phone text messaging feature https://wmg.tmomail.net/customer_site/jsp/messaging_lo.jsp work from outside the US? Has anyone used it from China to send a...

Wife is leaving on trip tomorrow. Of course, the battery is dead/dying, and the only way to run it is on AC adapter power. The only way I know right now of getting a replacement battery is via mail/telephone/web, via Toshiba or OEM mfr. Is there any place, in Philadelphia / NYC area, that I can buy such a battery at retail? I don't think Radio Shack carries, but maybe there's somewhere else. Thanks.

OTTAWA–You could say thousands of Calgary residents in Diane Ablonczy's riding who once were members of the Canadian Alliance are lucky. Or not. Their private information, stored along with other sensitive party documents by a party organizer, was left on a laptop computer that was shipped to anyone in North America on eBay. The computer contains names, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses for party members in Calgary-Nose Hill and it even contains the very agreement that outlines how the confidential data should be protected. "The Parties agree that this system and the information contained in it are confidential and...

Submerging computer chips in oil could make them more energy efficient, according to a UK company that hopes to start selling such systems within a year. The microprocessors inside servers and desktop computers are normally cooled using fans that blow air across the components. But UK a company called Very-PC hopes to see a much more radical, oil-based alternative, take off instead. "It is possible to cut power consumption in half," managing director Peter Hopton told New Scientist. "You don't need to drive inefficient fans, or the usual air conditioning." Hopton first got the idea after seeing computer enthusiasts discuss...

I've been a Microsoft Windows user since Windows 3.1. I remember the day I upgraded to Windows 95 and it felt like going from the stone age to the iron age - the Start Menu seemed like a great idea and it looked fantastic - my world was changed forever. I've been using Windows ever since and as soon as the latest version - Windows Vista - was released, I installed it and started using it day-to-day as I mentioned before. Initially I liked Vista, I was impressed by some of the cool animations and effects, I liked the icons...

I have a network that uses a Belkin router. One desktop computer is connected via ethernet cable to the router, and also has a Canon MP500 printer connected to the computer via USB. This desktop computer has been set up to allow sharing of the MP500. A second computer, a Toshiba laptop, has been able to print to the Canon via the shared connection. Now, however, it cannot print. When I try to print a Word document, I get the message "Windows cannot print due a problem with the current printer setup." When I go to the printers page of...

TWO WEEKS AFTER Apple released its Apple TV, hackers have turned it into something a bit more useful and created the cheapest PC that the Cappuccino outfit has built. Apple TV sells for $300, which is fairly expensive for what the gear does. Particularly as it is so limited and produces poor quality video content. However a couple of hackers have voided their warranties and managed to get the beast to run OS X. A site has been started as the various hacks are reported. The process is pretty laborious and there is no video acceleration, audio or ethernet support,...

Well, my experiences of both types of laptop this week has left me reeling. Where do I start? Let’s start with the Mac, a MacBook with OSX preloaded. The MacBook was a joy to look at, very well finished with a glossy white sheen that looked and felt good in the hand. And light. On opening the thing had obviously been placed in suspension, and it just started. It found my network and was ready to use. The interface, OSX, with its one button for the mouse, threw me for a few minutes as I am VERY used to Windows...

I just purchased a new laptop for the 17 yearold as she enters her senior year in highschool. Its a very cool Compaq model. The box that it came in has a big sticker on the side that says "Do Not Sell Until Janruary 30th 2007". Vista. Its running the new Vista system. So far it runs good. No problems have arised. My question is with the wireless router that I bought and connected to my desktop. So far the router works great and the internet is working fine. From what I gather, I can also use the router to...

Lenovo Inc. recalled about 100,000 laptop computer batteries Thursday, warning that they could overheat and cause a fire. The battery recall was the second for the company in the past six months and comes as Lenovo, the world's No. 3 computer maker, tries to gain ground on its better-known competitors. The latest recall involves batteries made by Japan's Sanyo Electric Co. and follows four reports of overheating. In one case, a user suffered minor eye irritation, the company said. The Chinese PC maker, which has its world headquarters in Research Triangle Park, said consumers should stop using the recalled products...

Hey gang, Once again, with hopeful heart, I turn to my fellow FReepers for some advice. In a nutshell: Got new computer. It runs on VISTA and DX10 (whatever that it) Come to find out Everquest One (and as far as I can tell, EQII) doesn't do either, and SONY doesn't particularly care. So, five years of customer loyalty ***blip***.. (...but I digress) Anyway, I am now looking for another RPG. One that will take/run on Vista and DX10. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, --YD

A very strange thing happened to my computer. The other day I was booting up and received a message that my C drive was almost full. I checked it and it was. So I went to system tools and ran disk clean up. This freed up about 3 gigs. I also noticed that there was a game on the disk, I removed it. Then I started looking at my d drive and decided to prune it as well. I got to a game I had and went to remove it it was taking a long time so I went to...
