"I don’t have anything to report to you at this point in time about our plans," Psaki said. "Jan. 6 was one of the darkest days in our democracy," she continued. "It was a day when our nation's capital was under attack and I think there's no question you'll see us commemorate that day."

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 12, 2006 – Despite a downpour and half-flooded streets, about 1,200 people braved the rain yesterday to participate in San Antonio’s first Freedom Walk, a 2-mile tribute to the 3,000 victims of Sept. 11, 2001. The walk, sponsored by Operation Homefront and USAA, was one of more than 130 that took place throughout the nation as a remembrance of Sept. 11 and a tribute to veterans and servicemembers still serving today. The trek through the soaked, yet still scenic, downtown area offered participants an opportunity to reflect on past tragedies, as well as a few more recent...

Stop saying “HAPPY Memorial Day” By Jeff Seeber I hope I live long enough to be able to get through the month of May just once without some moron sending me a HAPPY Memorial Day e-mail or hearing some idiot wishing people a HAPPY Memorial Day. It’s bad enough I’m reminded every May and every November that very few Americans know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but expecting me to remain silent about the growing trend to turn Memorial Day into some sort of celebration is asking too much. I usually chagrin and bear it, but I’m...

A letter from the nations, which also included Russia, Israel, Australia and Canada, circulated Thursday requests the General Assembly to add the proposal to its agenda, noting that this year's 60th anniversary of the United Nations coincides with the 60th year of the end of the war. "The Holocaust constituted a systematic and barbarous attempt to annihilate...

New Berlin rejects naming high school after Reagan By KAY NOLANSpecial to the Journal Sentinel Posted: July 20, 2004 New Berlin - School Board members have backed away from a plan to rename West High School after the late President Ronald Reagan. Instead, the board voted Monday to consider bestowing the Reagan name on an elementary school, perhaps when a new one is built to replace Center Elementary. Shortly after Reagan's death on June 5, School Board Vice President Matt Weiss had suggested renaming one of the district's two high schools in Reagan's honor. The district's other high school is...

With the state quarters set to end thier run when the Hawaii quarter is minted at the end of 2008, will that be the end of the Washington-head US quarter? What does our treasury have in store for this coin for 2009 and beyond? Well, I dunno, but I'd like to suggest replacing George's bust with that of the father of our Constitution, James Madison. Washington will forever be on the $1 bill (which isn't counterfeited that much so not worthy of redesign) and will thus remain highly visible as our most common script. Thomas Jefferson is on the nickel...
