People love pirate movies because deep down we all love the idea of a good treasure hunt. And if you're a gearhead like us, that treasure is more likely to be hidden away in some forgotten garage instead of a wooden box with an ancient lock. Now, finding one car that's been squirreled away is pretty cool, but what if you end up finding dozens? Well, these hoards of classic cars are still out there waiting to be rediscovered. A perfect example is what is being called the Firehouse Find. It's a huge collection that will be going up for...

WASHINGTON D.C.—According to reports, President Joe Biden has purchased the entire collection of Hunter Biden's artwork for $12.6 million. In a discussion with an anonymous source, he said he hopes this gives him the leverage he needs for an audience with the President. "I really wanna meet the President—I hear he's a real swell guy," said President Biden as he packed a mural made of multicolored pasta in his trunk. "And I was able to get this whole collection for only four-hundred bitcoin! What a deal! Four hundred ain't a lot!" Biden said he hopes the President will listen to...

The police in China are collecting blood samples from men and boys from across the country to build a genetic map of its roughly 700 million males, giving the authorities a powerful new tool for their emerging high-tech surveillance state. They have swept across the country since late 2017 to collect enough samples to build a vast DNA database, according to a new study published on Wednesday by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, a research organization, based on documents also reviewed by The New York Times. With this database, the authorities would be able to track down a man’s male...

Consistent with NSA’s core values of respect for the law, accountability, integrity, and transparency we are making public notice that on May 23, 2018, NSA began deleting all call detail records (CDRs) acquired since 2015 under Title V of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) The Government relies on Title V of FISA to obtain CDRs, which do not include the content of any calls. In accordance with this law, the Government obtains these CDRs, following a specific court-authorized process. NSA is deleting the CDRs because several months ago NSA analysts noted technical irregularities in some data received from telecommunications...

Cerro Gordo County, IA - Local law enforcement is making an effort to keep ammunition out of the wrong hands. On Saturday, Cerro Gordo County hosted an ammunition collection day. Folks are encouraged to drop off their unused, unwanted or expired ammunition. Officers said not only will this help keep the ammunition out of the wrong hands, but it will also help keep your home safe. "It's very explosive, so if there is fire in your house it can go off and then we're putting our friends at the fire department and our neighbors at risk," said Officer David Studder...

Today’s column is not for members of “tithing parishes,” or for those who attend the kind of churches and temples that collect an annual standard pre-arranged amount from their members. Feel free to skip it and read something about politics! But if you belong to a house of worship that passes the collection basket every week, this one’s for you. Most worship communities depend on a mix of just a few types of collections to finance their operations: the regular weekly collections at Sabbath or Sunday services, the collection at a couple of high holidays, and perhaps one or two...

Robert Vee, a highway construction worker from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, got boned not once but twice. If it wasn't bad enough that late last winter he was tossed into a local county clink -- the result of missing a court hearing over an unpaid credit card... The truly below-the-belt shot came when he found out his bail was the exact amount he owed the creditor: $1,875.06. It was not coincidence. In various parts of the country, collections agencies -- fueled by a sideways economy and a growing industry that buys bad debt -- are hijacking law enforcement and the legal...

NEW YORK – A striking black-and-white photograph of the majestic Bridalveil waterfall is among numerous that landscape photographer Ansel Adams took with Polaroid film — a technology many celebrated artists embraced to produce innovative and surprising works. ... The image is among 1,000 Polaroid and gelatin silver prints by some of the biggest names in 20th-century photography being offered at Sotheby's on June 21-22 as part of a bankruptcy court-approved sale. The prints are being sold by PBE Corp., a previous owner of the Polaroid brand. The Polaroid camera was the invention of Edwin H. Land, whose revolutionary 1948 technology...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California wage earners will soon notice a little less money in their paychecks. Starting Monday, employers in the cash-strapped state are required to withhold 10 percent more in state income taxes to help ease the budget problems. It's part of a plan to artificially inflate state revenue by $1.7 billion through next June. Brenda Voet, a spokeswoman for the state Franchise Tax Board, says it's technically not a tax increase since workers will get their money back after April 15.

ISLAMABAD — It's 8 o'clock on a Sunday night in the Pakistani capital, but collection cowboy Sharoon Hermoon is living on U.S. time. Headset in place, feet on his desk, he aims his speed dialer at a debtor in Fort Worth. "Hello, ma'am, how ya doin' today?" he says in a convincing American accent. "My name is James Harold, and you owe us $11,000." There's a deer-in-the-headlights moment at the other end, a deep breath, a torrent of excuses. "I don't know what you're talking about," she says. "It's someone else. My husband's identity was stolen." After several minutes of...

One can measure the failures of the film American Beauty in so many ways, but perhaps the best is to realize that the screenwriter was so unsure of his audience’s ability to spot a creep that he had to make Kevin Spacey’s next-door neighbor not just a sadist and a closet case but also a collector of Nazi memorabilia. I bring this up because a fetish for the baubles of fascism is generally thought to be a good way of alienating civilized company. The auction house Christie’s refuses to sell the stuff. And whatever the interpretative fallacies of the late...

Hitler was a music enthusiast The record collection was in possession of Russian military intelligence officer Lew Besymenski, who examined the Führerbunker in Berlin following Germany's defeat in 1945. Mr Besymenski kept his haul secret but after he died in June this year his daughter revealed the find to German magazine Der Spiegel. Surprisingly, the music Hitler and his entourage listened to featured Russian...

LONDON - Imagine looking at Leonardo da Vinci's heart sketch while listening to Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin Heart," or viewing a sculpture of an HIV-positive woman in a cast made from wax laced with the retroviral drugs she took to stay alive. This is London's newest museum, where science, medicine and art meet. Artifacts stand side-by-side with medical technology at the Wellcome Collection, a nine-story building that opened Thursday that houses more than 1,500 exhibits in three galleries, including a special exhibition examining the heart's role in medicine and culture. "It's not science for the scientists," said Ken Arnold, head...
