The US Marine Corps officer who was relieved of his command for chastising his bosses over the botched Afghan withdrawal has revealed that he was ordered to undergo a mental health screening. “I was evaluated by the mental health specialists and then sent on my way. My CO is a standup guy, and I understand why he did it,” he added. A day earlier, the officer said in a YouTube video that he was sticking by his guns and resigning his commission — walking away from a pension after 17 years of service. Scheller was relieved of his command for...

Last night, while watching Hannity & Colmes, I resisted the temptation of throwing something at the television set. I’ve heard, consistently, from many conservatives who know him, that Alan is “really a nice guy”. Maybe so. But, his comments continue to be consistently absurd, mindless, immature, idiotic, perplexing and too many other adjectives defining ‘ludicrous’ to list here. One of his Wednesday comments, however, took the proverbial cake. Engaged in a conversation with Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, regarding Jane Fonda and her new book, the inevitable subject of Fonda’s Viet Nam war atrocities came up in the discussion. Please bear...

After several attempts to signal U.S. aircraft, he was ambushed and recaptured, and was later moved to prison in Hanoi, where he continued to strongly resist to his captors. In seeking to find the equitableness in the case against Lt. Col Allen B. West, one struggles as the news poured out of Iraq, in regard to the action of the troops of the 4th ID--which Col West was a part of up until he was removed from his battalion command-- with in the span of one week, included the following: November 17 Reuters reported: Angered by bomb attacks ... the commander of a US battalion in Iraq sent his tanks and armored vehicles through the streets on Monday in a demonstration of firepower to insurgents. Weapons of choice: Abrams...

WASHINGTON -- An investigation that is expected to result in criminal charges against a decorated Army battalion commander in Iraq has raised serious new questions about whether there is such a thing as ethical behavior in war and if there is, to what degree one should be held accountable for violating it. On the surface, the case involving Lt. Col. Allen West seems trivial. He fired his pistol near the head of a detainee in an effort to elicit information about opposing forces. Before that, it is alleged, he did nothing to stop an interrogation that included beating the prisoner,...

Under the strain of command in a dangerous situation, Lt. Col. Allen West committed a serious error in judgment. And in a military environment, such errors by a commanding officer cannot go unpunished. Informed on Aug. 20 that an Iraqi policeman might have information about potential attacks on West and his troops, the colonel invited soldiers under his command to beat the suspect as West looked on. When that did not produce the desired effect, West threatened the prisoner, first firing a pistol into the air, then holding the pistol to the policeman's head and firing a shot into the...

AN Army officer hailed a hero for his inspirational leadership in the Iraq conflict is being probed over alleged war crimes, The Sun can reveal. Lieutenant Colonel Tim Collins, 43, has been accused of a number of “serious breaches” of war rules. Military investigators are examining claims that he punched, kicked and threatened Iraqi PoWs and opened fire needlessly. Cigar-chomping Col Collins gained fame on the eve of the war by galvanising his troops with an emotion-charged address that won praise from Prince Charles and US President George Bush. The officer, who led the Canterbury-based Royal Irish Regiment in...
