CHICAGO -- Chicago's expected jump in gun violence over the long July 4 weekend left six people dead and another 66 wounded. The police had expected the surge in gun violence and flooded the streets with an additional 1,500 officers and the totals were far lower than during the last four-day Fourth of July weekend in 2017 ended with more than 100 people shot - 15 of them fatally. The Chicago Tribune reports that that at least 31 people were shot over an 18-hour period noon on July 4 and dawn the next day.

Truck Came To A Stop With Music Still Playing (CBS) CHICAGO Police on Sunday were looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing an ice cream truck driver on Chicago’s West Side. It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of South Harding Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood.
