Truck Came To A Stop With Music Still Playing

(CBS) CHICAGO Police on Sunday were looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing an ice cream truck driver on Chicago’s West Side.

It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of South Harding Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood.

Authorities said the truck came to a rest with its music still playing over the loudspeakers after the shooting.

The ice cream truck driver, Hector Jimenez, 34, of 4520 S. Hermitage Av., was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 8:01 p.m. Saturday, according to a spokesman with the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

“He comes by every day,” said Isabell Williams, who lives on the block where the truck crashed into a car. “He would come and the kids would line up to get ice cream. It’s sad. He was a nice person.”

Williams said neighbors heard a loud “bam” when the truck crashed.

Detectives said they have some ideas on a motive but so far no one has been arrested.

Police don't think any children witnessed the shooting.

Wonder if the killer will cop the "Turkey In The Straw" defense.

. . . they have some ideas on a motive . . .

Someone was probably driven insane by a cheesy electronic version of "Dixie" played over and over and over again, complete with doppler effect.

I've often wondered why Disney workers on the "It's a Small World" ride don't go postal in large numbers. I wonder if that is at play in this story, albeit with the neighbors rather than the worker.

No doubt somebody in the neighborhood was not in a Good Humor.

No doubt someone in the neighborhood was sick and tired of the loud distorted music played over and over again, day after day.

Verdict: Justifiable Homicide

Weren't three latin gang members arrested Friday for killing a black man because he was a black man? They didn't know the man at all. They saw him on the street and shot him dead.
This might be a case of fools pay back.

I remember the same thing happening in Dallas in late 1980s.
Maybe its just me, but in that case and in this case, it seems like the level of depravity and pure evil, it takes to kill the ice cream man is just unimaginable. A political establishment that just shrugs its shoulders, when this happens, or a child gets killed by a stray bullet and the next day it is business as usual is beyond my comprehension. The next day community "leaders", the Democratic party and the ACLU are back to attacking the police and enabling street gangs as if nothing happened.
