Former Vice President Mike Pence, who had to be evacuated four years ago Monday as rioters stormed the Capitol, welcomed “the return of order and civility” as Congress moved to certify President-elect Trump’s 2024 victory. “The peaceful transfer of power is the hallmark of our democracy and today, members of both parties in the House and Senate along with the vice president certified the election of our new president and vice president without controversy or objection,” Pence posted on the social platform X. “I also commend the members of the House, Senate and the Vice President who did their duty...

Georgia gubernatorial candidate and former Sen. David Perdue (R) said on Wednesday that he would not have certified Georgia's 2020 presidential election results. "Not with the information that was available at the time and not with the information that has come out now. They had plenty of time to investigate this. And I wouldn’t have signed it until those things had been investigated and that’s all we were asking for," Perdue told Axios. He added if he had been governor at the time, he would have called for a special session of the state legislature to "protect and fix what...

Vice President Mike Pence will attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, according to a source familiar. CNN previously reported that Pence was planning to attend the inauguration, but he was waiting on an invitation. Biden said Friday that he was glad Pence would be attending. "He's welcome. I think it's important that as much as we can stick to what have been the historical precedents of how an administration changes should be maintained. And so Mike, the vice president, is welcome to come. We'd be honored to have him there, and to move forward in the transition," Biden said.

Ivan Raiklin says Vice President Pence can request states send Electoral College slates that actually reflect the will of the people. Citing the United States Constitution and U.S. Code, Constitutional Lawyer Ivan Raiklin says it is Vice President Mike Pence’s duty to instruct states to expeditiously send their Electoral College Certificates immediately if they have not been received. U.S.C. 12 explains that “When no certificate of vote and list mentioned in sections 9 and 11 of this title from any State shall have been received by the President of the Senate or by the Archivist of the United States by...

In an extraordinary turnabout that foreshadows possible legal action, the two GOP members of Wayne County's election board signed affidavits Wednesday night alleging they were bullied and misled into approving election results in Michigan's largest metropolis and do not believe the votes should be certified until serious irregularities in Detroit votes are resolved. The statements by Wayne County Board of Canvassers Chairwoman Monica Palmer and fellow GOP member William C. Hartmann rescinding their votes from a day earlier threw into question anew whether Michigan's presidential vote currently favoring Democrat Joe Biden will be certified. They also signaled a possible legal...

Donald Trump has officially won Michigan, the final state to be awarded and the capstone of Trump’s unlikely run of narrow victories in the Midwestern states that will deliver the first-time political candidate to the White House. Michigan’s Board of Canvassers certified the results on Monday afternoon in Lansing. Trump won 2,279,543 votes (47.6 percent), according to the certified results — 10,704 more than Hillary Clinton’s 2,268,839 (47.4 percent). Trump becomes the first Republican presidential candidate to carry Michigan since George H.W. Bush won it in 1988, breaking a six-cycle Democratic winning streak. That adds Michigan’s 16 electoral votes to...

UPDATED AT 5:20 P.M. Secretary of State Debra Bowen today certified the fifth recall bid seeking to oust Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. A group called Taxpayers United to Recall Governor Schwarzenegger -- headed by John D. Fusek of La Habra -- now has until Oct. 22 to obtain 1,041,530 valid voter signatures, or 12 percent of the electorate, to qualify the measure for the ballot. It won't be easy. Gray Davis became the first California governor to be recalled in 2003, but four other recall drives against Schwarzenegger -- one in 2004, two in 2005 and one in 2008 -- have...
