I use a third party Email program (Thunderbird) to get my Email (via a POP setup) from Verizon (now hosted by AOL). I noticed some months ago that spam filters it was using were not always reliable. I began going on line to AOL mail to see what had been placed in the "Trash" folder (Emails I got via Thunderbird) and what it had in a "SPAM" folder. I found Emails assigned as Spam were not and some Emails they sent ot me should have been sent to the Spam folder instead. I made corrections on their Email web page....

Twitter suspended the account of David Neiwert, a reporter for Daily Kos and author of the book Alt-America, on Tuesday, making him the latest journalist covering white supremacists and the far right to be hit with a temporary ban. Neiwert said in a phone interview he was banned because the top image on his Twitter profile included an illustration from his book cover, which featured Ku Klux Klan hoods atop a series of stars from the American flag. Twitter put a notice on his suspended page, reading: “@DavidNeiwert's account is temporarily unavailable because it violates the Twitter Media Policy.” The...

China operates the world’s most elaborate and opaque system of Internet censorship. But Congress, under pressure to take action against the theft of intellectual property, is considering misguided legislation that would strengthen China’s Great Firewall and even bring major features of it to America. The legislation — the Protect IP Act, which has been introduced in the Senate, and a House version known as the Stop Online Piracy Act — have an impressive array of well-financed backers, including the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Motion Picture Association of America, the American Federation of Musicians, the Directors Guild of America,...

n China it is known as the “sacred doctrine” and it has become one of the country’s bestselling books. Yet it has nothing to do with the thoughts of Chairman Mao and its teachings have been in conflict with the forces of Communism for generations. Demand for the Bible is soaring in China, at a time when meteoric economic growth is testing the country’s allegiance to Communist doctrine. Today the 50 millionth Bible will roll off the presses of China’s only authorised publisher, Amity Printing, amid public fanfare and celebration.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Swedish artist Lars Vilks, under a death threat from al-Qaida over his drawing of Islam's Prophet Muhammad, said Monday that police have increased his security and will not allow him to live in his home. Vilks, who was whisked away by police when he returned to Sweden from Germany on Sunday, said he was currently staying at a secret address after security police described the threats against him as ``very serious." "Police guard was nonexistent before this. It's 100 per cent now," he said in a telephone interview. "I can't live in my home, I've only been...

We are now living in what some scholars call the "post-Christian West."By this they mean that Christianity no longer influences culture in Europe or in North America in a way that it once did. Of course there are many inherited influences still evident in the law, but for the past 50 years Europe, then the United States, has jettisoned Christian influences in arts and entertainment, politic, and education. It is becoming, some scholars say, an "ABC moment" -- "Anything But Christian."While well over 90 percent of Americans still say they believe in God, and many still identify as "Christian," the values...

Let's say that you have been a lurker for a very long time, as you have not been a member of FR for very long, you must admit. If you had, you would know better than to replay for the umteenth time the same old tired boilerplate about FreeRepublic becoming a "though police state" etc. and so on. Why? because you would have seen the many, many, many previous examples of various complainant's rationales, and their almost immediate and complete factual refutation by veteran members of FR. You are not being censored. Your First Ammendment rights are not being trampled....
