The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cincinnati issued a warning to Christians about the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, ahead of its release over the weekend weekend. "The story line is presented as a romance; however, the underlying theme is that bondage, dominance, and sadomasochism are normal and pleasurable," Archbishop Dennis Marion Schnurr posted on the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Facebook page. The movie tells the story of a sexual relationship between a wealthy businessman and a college student and includes scenes that depict whipping and bondage. "This movie is in direct contrast to the Christian message of God’s design for self-giving...

Christine O'Donnell won the Delaware primary last night, and within minutes (literally) über liberal Rachel Maddow started running video and commentary on MSNBC about O'Donnell's views on masturbation. The pretext for sexualizing O'Donnell was a 1996 video in which O'Donnell was interviewed about her conservative Christian views on sex. Before Maddow's post, the subject mostly was the subject of left-wing bloggers, but Maddow took it mainstream on MSNBC's primetime coverage. An almost 15-year old video was all the excuse Maddow needed to take the story national. Because the fate of the nation turns on whether O'Donnell masturbates, at least to...

They say the best place to keep an appointment with the devil is at a crossroads. We are again drawing near another political crossroads on health care. If we cannot move past our own diabolical short-sightedness and partisan tendencies this time, we will miss a historic opportunity to put our health care system on a path toward sustainability, fairness and common decency. It could be decades before the chance comes around again. We cannot afford to wait to reform our system. It is costing us too much as individuals and as a society. The current system regularly turns medical misfortune...

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Young children must be guided from a very early age with moral law so that they will have direction as they weather life's storms and resist its temptations, Pope Benedict XVI said. "God's law must be impressed on the soul from the beginning 'like on a piece of wax,'" the pope said, citing the teachings of St. John Chrysostom at his Sept. 19 weekly general audience. Early infancy "is in fact the age that is the most important" because it marks the time when "the great directives that point to the right course to (take in)...

Where do we as Catholics stand today on one's right to defend one's self against an unjust aggressor? Has this view changed from what it may have once been? Do you feel that the teaching of the church regarding self defense has changed? I believe the answer among the majority of Catholics would be yes. How about Gun ownership. We know where Rome stands. Where do we stand regarding this. Will we lay down and allow the terrorist and criminals(same people)to massacre us? Christ told his apostles in the Gospel according to St. Luke 22:36, "He said to them,"But now,...

Did anyone catch the "ER" episode tonight? It was a direct affront to pro-lifers and Catholics. Luka pushed the whole "personally opposed" agenda. Parental notification was also attacked as the young, pregnant girl was, with Luka's help, able to lie and circumvent the authority of her parents. NBC will here from this Pro Life Catholic.

Archbishop Sheen Today! -- Rectitude of intention Barbara Kralis Barbara Kralis October 12, 2004 © Catholic Online 2004 Why do we hear so little mention of this virtuous idiom, Rectitude of Intention? Is it because the very meaning, per se, is a pox upon the relativism of our culture? What does this term, 'Rectitude of Intention' mean? It means having the correct intention in all that we do — in our daily work, our recreation, our civic obligations, and our religious duties — however, not for our glory but all for the glory of God. We live in an age...

The search to prove that one can be a democrat and a Catholic has once again failed. With John F. Kerry attempting to be John F. Kennedy's protégé as the second Catholic president, the juxtaposition of Catholicism and the Democratic Party has been called to attention again with renewed vigor.Kerry's ambitions to be the next Catholic president sound as reasonable as his designs to be the next black president, for Kerry is as much a devout Catholic as he is a Southern black. Kerry's claims to be a Catholic in good standing have disturbed both the Vatican and the various...
