The cat found beaten and nailed to a utility pole in rural Henry County, Illinois has died, according to the Dana Miller Veterinary clinic, which was caring for the animal. A spokesperson said the cat, nicknamed "Dutch" passed away last night. Dutch was found nailed by one paw to the utility pole near Dutch Bottom road outside the town of Geneseo on Monday.

HAMPTON — A local man is facing criminal charges after allegedly admitting to police that he killed a cat with a shotgun near his home back in November. Jeffrey Lee Eiras, 54, Hampton, was arrested last week on charges of cruelty to animals and unauthorized use of firearms/firecrackers. Eiras was arraigned on the charges at Hampton District Court on March 1. Police said the investigation began after they received a call from a concerned neighbor about the alleged incident that occurred at Eiras' home on Winnacunnet Road, near Locke Road, around 5 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2009.

ALBANY — A 22-year-old city man is under arrest for drowning a cat in his bathtub and then attempting to set it on fire. Police Officer Kevin Paul was on routine patrol Sunday at about 6 p.m. when he spotted a small fire in a vacant lot on Yates Street. Township police allege David Robbins, 60, of Heather Highlands, used a trap to kill the cat on Dec. 22. Robbins could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. A Melbourne teenager who senselessly killed a beloved family cat has been sentenced to youth detention. LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincoln man has been charged with animal cruelty after police said he put his roommate's cat in a washing machine. Investigators said Richard Lynne Andersen, 22, put a video of the incident on his cell phone. On the video, investigators said you can see the machine spinning and hear Andersen laughing that the cat was "in the spin cycle." Andersen was charged with a misdemeanor.
