A Washington County priest is facing hundreds of felony charges after being accused of stealing more than $117,000 from his parish. Father George Athanasiou, 37, is an assistant priest at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in North Strabane Township. Through an investigation, authorities said they discovered that between April 2022 and mid-November 2023, Athanasiou made 219 unauthorized ATM withdrawals from the church account. Last month, church members notified police about missing donation checks to the church. The investigation led authorities to a PNC Bank on Washington Road where church donation checks were deposited into a personal account. Additionally, Athanasiou was...

CANONSBURG, Pa. (KDKA) — A protest is planned for one of the area’s biggest Fourth of July events. Participants are pulling out of the annual Canonsburg Fourth of July Parade, fearing the planned protest. “We’re going to shut it down,” Trey Willis Sr. said on his Facebook Live video discussing the protest. Willis Sr. told KDKA that the demonstration will remain peaceful, but protesters want their voices heard. He expects 100-200 people will join him in protest on the morning of the parade. “We’re intending to just shed light on the practices coming out of the district attorney’s office,” Willis...

CANONSBURG - After weeks of controversy about whether a nativity scene should remain in front of the Canonsburg Borough offices, Janet Moeller wanted to make sure that Christ remains part of Christmas. Moeller and her sister, Dale Seamon, braved frigid temperatures and lightly falling snow Sunday to join about 100 others for an evening that included a live nativity scene and Christmas carols. The scene was set up in a lot adjacent to the borough building. Earlier this month, a crèche that has been in front of the borough building for the past 57 Christmas seasons was moved after a...

I'm sorry for the vanity but I was just thinking.....Canonsburg Boro has a Council meeting this Monday. Any Pittsburgh-area FReepers wanna go? I am trying to get a group to go because I'd like to personally donate to the Council my copy of David Barton's "Separation of Church & State" so that these fools can get a little education. It seems that they are allowing a Satan-loving mental health patient (Megan Hartley) to dictate how this little town observes the Christmas Holiday. There have been numerous threads here on FreeRepublic about this story so I'm sure most of you have...
