Long-time political commentator Chris Matthews said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that former President Donald Trump was being blasphemous by claiming he is God. Matthews said, “This presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is saying, I am the shepherd. I’m him. I’m God. It’s astounding to me. It’s astounding to me that he can talk like this. It’s blasphemy.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that former President Donald Trump “is not calling the shots” for the House. Partial transcript as follows: KRISTEN WELKER: Mr. Speaker, you talk about H.R. 2. Again, Senator Lindsey Graham, your Republican colleagues say that that stands no chance of passing through the Senate. You have an opportunity to do something right now about the situation at the border which you’ve been calling for new legislation on the border since you first took office. But let me ask you about Donald Trump. He said any Republican who votes...

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced the start of an impeachment inquiry Tuesday into President Joe Biden over his family’s businesses. But he stopped short of calling for a vote to authorize the inquiry. The problem: Republicans argued during the first impeachment of President Donald Trump that Democrats could not use Congress to subpoena the White House until the House had voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry. In fact, that argument was a major part of President Trump’s defense against the charge that he obstructed Congress by refusing to comply with subpoenas issued before an inquiry had been...

Mayor Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa got especially nasty over the migrant crisis Tuesday — with Hizzoner blasting the Guardian Angel as a “buffoon’’ and his foe deriding him as “The Swaggerman with No Plan.’’ “Any time you start out a question with the name ‘Curtis Sliwa’ — that in itself states it would be a disservice to me and other New Yorkers to even respond,” Adams snarked when asked about Sliwa’s calls to house migrants on the grounds at Gracie Mansion. “If you look in the dictionary for the word ‘buffoon,’ tell me what picture comes up,” snapped the...

But at Your Command I Will Lower the Nets -- A Homily for the 5th Sunday of the Year Msgr. Charles Pope -- February 6, 2016 -- Today's gospel describes the call of Simon Peter. It is a call that takes place in several stages. And while it is presented in a compact time frame, for most of us it takes place over a longer period, as the Lord works to deepen our faith and heighten our call. The upshot of today's gospel is that Peter's faith is strengthened by his obedience to the Lord's command.Let's see how the...

A new video about street harassment has gone viral and it proves that . . . how do I put this? It proves that I was right. The video, released by the nonprofit anti-street-harassment organization Hollaback, features a moderately attractive woman, Shoshana Roberts, wearing jeans and a T-shirt, walking in silence through Manhattan for ten hours. The trek was recorded on a hidden video camera, carried by Roberts’s boyfriend, who walked in front of her. The camera picked up over 100 instances of street harassment in one day, according to the group, ranging in severity from men shouting “good morning,”...

Costco has apparently had a “Come-to-Jesus” epiphany. The national warehouse chain has apologized for labeling Bibles in a Simi Valley, Calif. store as fiction, calling it an error that they are working quickly to correct. “We deeply regret the mislabeling of the Bible and meant no offense to anyone,” the company wrote in an email received by several customers. “The buyer has let us know that this was an error and the books are being pulled off the shelves to be re-marked.”

Labour MP David Lammy has apologised after accusing the BBC of being racist following its tweet which said "LIVE VIDEO: Chimney of Sistine Chapel as conclave votes for #Pope - will smoke be black or white?" Lammy replied saying: "This tweet from the BBC is crass and unnecessary. Do we really need silly innuendo about the race of the next Pope?" However, after receiving several messages alerting him to the fact that black smoke appears from a Vatican chimney when no decision has been made, and white smoke alerts the public to the election of a new Pope, the politician...

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Our journey is not complete until all of our children from the streets of Detroit to hills of Appalachia, to the twi-plains of Newtown know they're cared for and cherished and always safe from harm. That is our generation's task, to make these words, these rights, these values of life and liberty in the pursuit of happiness real for every American. Being true to our founding documents does not require us to agree on every contour of life. It does not mean that we all define liberty in exactly the same way, or follow the same, precise...

GOD will call those that HE wants. It's not something for us to gloat who have been called. But it's for us to be that living example that show others how great HE is; from the heart and eventually to the physical. The testimony of JESUS in our lives is our key to know HE is calling us. Our faith and prayers is our telephone call to HIM, and HE brings the increase to us. All is HIS.

The wife and mother of an American allegedly shot to death by Mexican pirates on a border lake in Texas are angrily demanding that Mexican authorities allow U.S. investigators to join the search for a body -- and stop questioning whether the attack ever happened. Search teams scouring the U.S. side of Falcon Lake have turned up no sign of David Michael Hartley, 30, five days after his wife said he was shot in the head by Mexican bandits marauding on the U.S.-Mexican border lake. Tiffany Hartley, 29, accused Mexican authorities Tuesday of "not looking" for her husband's body and...

I've made some phone calls today to get through to representatives and respectfully ask them to vote against Obama's healthcare package. I declined to provide an address but asked them (nicely) to pass on my request. It may not have an impact but I know I've tried to do something. I didn't want to be mean to the folks answering the phone. Their lives would be miserable enough if this bill passes.

Washington – "I do not love Congress." Call it the shot heard round the Capitol. With a $13 million war chest and a lead in the polls, Sen.
