The Atlantic Coast Conference has cleared the way for Stanford, California and SMU to join the league next year, two people with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Friday, providing a landing spot for two more teams from the disintegrating Pac-12. BERKELEY, Calif. — A Cal football player is facing felony charges, accused of kicking a dog and seriously injuring a student at a fraternity party. Damariay Drew was arrested Thursday afternoon. His attorney told KTVU on Friday that due to the high bail of $100,000, Drew will likely remain in jail until Monday when he is expected to appear in court. UC Berkeley is adding something a little different this year in its welcome package -- cotton swabs for a DNA sample. In the past, incoming freshman and transfer students have received a rather typical welcome book from the College of Letters and Science's "On the Same Page" program, but this year the students will be asked for more.
