Text size: Indictments reveal prison crime world Officers, inmates charged in drugs, extortion By Justin Fenton | justin.fenton@baltsun.com April 17, 2009 The court records read like a scene out of Goodfellas: From their prison cells and with the help of corrections staff, authorities say, members of a violent gang were feasting on salmon and shrimp, sipping Grey Goose vodka and puffing fine cigars - all while directing drug deals, extorting protection money from other inmates and arranging attacks on witnesses and rival gang members. A seven-month investigation that included wiretaps on contraband prison cell phones led to the indictment on...

In a 5-2 decision, the state's highest court Tuesday ruled to permane tly remove controversial Queens Supreme Court Justice Laura Blackburne from Blackburne, a Jamaica resident, allowed Derek Sterling, a drug treatment court defendant, to use a back stairwell only accessed by judges, jurors and court staff to evade arrest from a detective about an unrelated robbery back in 2004. In the New York State Court of Appeals' 20-page decision, the concurring opinion said Blackburne "placed herself above the law she was sworn to administer, thereby bringing the judiciary into disrepute and undermining public confidence in the integrity and impartiality...

Fox News:Just watched The Judge describe the terrorist POWs as kidnap victims. In general, he believes that it's against the constitution, to grab a terrorist in combat, ship him off to a brig and hold him indefinitely. He said that in W.W.II if we apprehended a spy, he was held until the war was over. Really? I've seen photo's of members of Otto Skorzeny's special ops unit that worked behind our lines during The Battle of the Bulge, being executed by firing squad on orders from Eisenhower. That's a precident I agree with.

I would like to share a few thoughts on the film, Ladder 49, which opened here in Baltimore, the city it portrays and in which much of the filming took place. I was immediately reminded of Gibson's We Were Soldiers in that they both offer a glimpse of what it is like to be the family of a hero. In another scene, John Travolta is in a memorable scene in which after just returning from notifying a firefighter's wife that her husband had perished, he enters the firehouse and reprimands two firefighters that are having a fight. There is an...

The Walt Disney Co., which had been scheduled to film a movie at the U.S. Naval Academy this fall, backed out this week and will instead shift production of Annapolis to Philadelphia - angering state and city officials who were anticipating a boost to the local economy and image. Jack Gerbes, director of the Maryland Film Office, said he was told by one of the film's principals this week that the company had changed its venue and would instead seek to replicate the Naval Academy and Maryland's capital in Philadelphia.......

Based on what I have heard,I'm going to make a prediction. Bill Clinton will file for divorce after the convention. If my prediction comes about, I will treat my source with much more respect. If it's just BS, my source will lose privileges.

"...All in all, he looks like a drug company's worst enemy. Be afraid, be very afraid, pharmaceutical shareholders. That includes you, John Edwards! Turns out the senior Tarheel senator is a double beneficiary of alleged drug-company misdemeanors. On the campaign trail he gets to bray about the injustice of it all, and back home he collects the dividends of "price gouging" and adds them to his considerable net worth."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. cinematographers and other film industry workers have asked the Bush administration to take action against Canadian, Australian and other government filmmaking subsidies that they say have lured away tens of thousands of jobs."We have been harmed by runaway production of films, videos and television shows that are being made in foreign countries because of ... unfair trade practices," the Film and Television Action Committee said in comments filed this week with the Commerce Department's Unfair Trade Practices Task Force.
