I attended the GA 5th District Convention. About 50 people, the largest attendance they have ever had. As they have done in past presidential years, a nominating committee had prepared a slate of 3 delegates and 3 alternates. At least 4 others had emailed me that they also were running. The chair, parliamentarian, secretary and credentials chair on the platform were all on the slate As with 2012, the slate was rejected as a slate. There were nominations from the floor going head-to-head a slated individual vs those not slated. The chair and parliamentarian declared that it would require a...

Nearly a third of people without health insurance, about 10 million, live in families that received a federal earned income tax credit in 2014, according to a new study. But the Internal Revenue Service doesn't tell those tax filers that their low and moderate incomes likely mean their households qualify for Medicaid or subsidies to buy coverage on the insurance exchanges. That's a lost opportunity to identify people who are eligible but not receiving government assistance to gain health coverage, the researchers say. More

Too Dumb to Fail Matt Lewis argues, America's inclination toward simplicity and stupidity is stronger than ever, and its greatest victim is the Republican Party. Lewis, a respected conservative columnist and frequent guest on MSNBC's Morning Joe, eviscerates the phenomenon of candidates with a "no experience required" mentality and tea party "patriots" who possess bluster but few core beliefs. Matt K. Lewis is a senior contributor for The Daily Caller and writes regular columns for TheWeek.com, The Daily Beast, and The Telegraph (UK). He records a weekly podcast, "Matt Lewis and the News." 2011 Business Insider Pundits You Need To...

Louisiana voters headed to the polls on Saturday to choose a successor to Governor Bobby Jindal, but experts and surveys suggest the race may go to a runoff after a faltering campaign by early favorite, Republican U.S. Senator David Vitter. The contest, dubbed a "jungle primary"......little interest from the electorate....Light early-voting numbers have led most pollsters to forecast low overall turnout,

can conservatives prevent Trumpism from eclipsing and dismantling the Reagan coalition? This is going to be a very important question going forward. Democrats are experiencing turmoil in their own primary at the moment — as we have been predicting here, Bernie Sanders is catching fire and Hillary Clinton is drowning in her own sins. The Republicans’ nominee could well be the next president. Will they nominate a movement conservative, or will they nominate Trump? The mother of a mentally disabled man allegedly beaten at a Gordon facility that cared for disabled adults has filed suit seeking punitive damages. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by Betty Gill in Bibb County Superior Court, claims that her son, Joseph Allen Cason Jr., also was taken to vote in the 2013 Gordon city election, although he lived in another county. Employees, while acting in their scope of employment, allegedly took Cason and other residents to the polls to vote for the sister of the facility’s owner, who was running for mayor, according to the suit.

Last night, after struggling for four years to clear his name, John White was released from prison and reunited with his family -- just in time for Christmas. Support the NAACP In 2006, a group of teenagers came to John's Long Island home shouting words of violence, yelling racial slurs, and threatening to kill his son. John did what any father would do -- he defended his home and his family. In the ensuing struggle, one of the teenagers lunged at John's handgun and was tragically killed. John was sentenced to prison. . . . . . .

REAL-UNEMPLOYMENT REACHES MORE THAN 1/3RD OF THE POPULATION? Who would have thought that unemployment within a segment of the American population would reach nearly 35%?! It may seem impossible for our economic situation to seem even more dire, but FOR MINORITIES, REAL UNEMPLOYMENT in an already fragile economy IS APPROACHING MORE THAN ONE OUT OF EVERY THREE! Although the current state of the economy as a whole is debatable, and perhaps more debatable is the future outlook, the outlook for minorities is not going to change without a little boost. . . ONLY WE CAN CHANGE OUR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS AND...

By John F. Di Leo At 10:00am Monday, a new face knocked on the door at party headquarters. A pleasant face, young, male, and clean-shaven, maybe about 16 or 17. You always welcome new volunteers, of course, but you don’t necessarily like them to just show up, unannounced and unintroduced, when they’re this young. You like… references. A lot goes on at party headquarters – a lot of private conversations, a lot of secret dealings. You don’t want spies in the place. So it was, understandably, with a bit less than total exuberance that the committeeman, Bill Marcy, sent his...

One of my genuine concerns with the direction of our society is the rise of ‘Gotcha Government’. By that, I mean a government that increasingly regulates the minutiae of our lives and imposes increasingly extreme punishments when we fail to precisely adhere to each meddlesome stricture. Get a parking ticket lately? It’s probably $50 or more (‘Gotcha!’). Try to buy some beers at Jewel on Saturday morning, or at the airport waiting for a flight? Get out your ID, Grandpa. No matter how old you look the proprietors fear government stings to catch them “in the act” (‘Gotcha!’). Don’t get...

The message below is from Mayor Cory Booker of Newark. James Rucker Executive Director, ColorOfChange.org (group van jones made famous) This March was the first month in 44 years without a single murder.1 It's an accomplishment for which we are incredibly proud, and one of the ways we got there was by being smart about guns. Right now, there is a gap in our nation’s laws. It's called the Gun Show Loophole, and it enables criminals, the mentally ill, and other legally prohibited persons to purchase firearms without a background check. 30% of illegally trafficked guns are connected to gun...

In Mar 2003-2006 I posted Your Landscaper has Arrived. I don't think I posted it in 07-09. Wednesday in traveling I55 South Chicagoland to Bloomington I saw a caravan of buses from CUNEJO and CAVALLO (rabbit and horse competition to Greyhound). They seemed full of eager seasonal immigrant workers. First, notice how one's personal experience impacts perception of reality. I spend only 2-4 hr per week on I55 and rarely on Wednesday. So did it happen in 07-09 and I missed it? If in 03-06 I saw it in 4 out of 168 hrs/week, how many did I miss in...
