Are they transitioning to all AI?
  • Los Angeles mayor lifts curfew after protests ease, cites success in preventing crime

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass lifted the nighttime curfew she imposed last week on the city’s downtown area to prevent crime prompted by protests, which began in the wake of raids on undocumented migrants in the city. Bass said arrests and confrontations with the police had declined since this past weekend’s demonstrations. In a statement, Bass said the seven-day curfew was a success in helping ease tensions, protect stores, restaurant and residents from “bad actors who do not care about the immigrant community.” “My priority will continue to be ensuring safety, stability and support in the downtown neighborhoods,” Bass said,...

TULSA, Okla. — A north Tulsa home was damaged after an electric bike caught fire in a carport that then spread to the house. The fire happened at a home near East 56th Street North and Yale. According to Tulsa Police, a family member took the bike to the house to charge it and show it to another family member. A neighbor then later saw smoke in the area and called the fire in. The homeowners said everything inside the carport was destroyed. "Everybody's good," shared David Baxter, the owner of the home. "You know, pretty much everything lost that...
  • Tulsa City Council to feature Hindu prayer amid new moment of silence policy

    05/15/2025 6:08:28 AM PDT · by LouAvul · 12 replies
TULSA, OKLA. (KTUL) — The Tulsa City Council will begin its meeting next week with a Hindu mantra prayer, despite a recent policy change to replace opening prayers with moments of silence for reflection. This decision follows a controversial pagan prayer at a council meeting last November, which prompted the council to vote in January for the change. A Tulsa City Councilor explained that the Hindu prayer is permitted because the individual signed up before the deadline to switch to moments of silence and reflection, which is at the end of this month. The pagan prayer last year drew attention...

TULSA, Okla. — Leaders from various faith groups gathered together for an interfaith prayer vigil on Tuesday night to show their support for Tulsa's immigrant community. "The vigil tonight is an effort to just make a real public statement about how many people, in this city at least, support the immigrant community as our friends and our neighbors, as people we know and love," said Reverend Chris Moore from Fellowship Congregational United Church of Christ. "They make us a better place. The purpose of the vigil is for us to make that message loud and clear." Rev. Moore said Tuesday's...
  • Any guitarists on FR?

    05/02/2025 5:36:41 AM PDT · by LouAvul · 63 replies
I used to play the guitar but broke my wrist, ruptured a tendon, other life events, and quit. I kept the gear (2 Gibsons, a Fender and a Martin, with amps.) I'm relearning, but from a different tact. I formerly simply learned songs without realizing any principles or theory. Now I'm starting by learning scales. Am pentatonic, for starters. Question: I know this scale works with songs written in Am, but I also read that the Am pentatonic scale also works in A major. The only difference is the root note. Am I understanding this correctly?

FRISCO, Texas (WOAI) — The mother of a Frisco teenager accused of fatally stabbing another teen at a track meet has spoken out, saying her family has faced threats and harassment since her son's arrest. Seventeen-year-old Karmelo Anthony is accused of stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf to death earlier this month following a fight in the stands at a Frisco ISD track meet. Investigators reported that an argument between Anthony and Metcalf escalated, with Metcalf either grabbing or pushing Anthony, leading Anthony to allegedly pull out a knife and stab Metcalf. Karmelo's mother, Kala Hayes, addressed the public for the first...
  • AP wins reinstatement to White House events after judge rules government can’t bar its journalists

    04/09/2025 2:50:20 PM PDT · by LouAvul · 85 replies
A federal judge ordered the White House on Tuesday to restore The Associated Press’ full access to cover presidential events, affirming on First Amendment grounds that the government cannot punish the news organization for the content of its speech. U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden, an appointee of President Donald Trump, ruled that the government can't retaliate against the AP’s decision not to follow the president’s executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico. The decision, while a preliminary injunction, handed the AP a major victory at a time the White House has been challenging the press on several levels....
  • Our founding fathers created three branches of govt.

In order that each would balance the other. But some say the current federal judiciary is now a 4th branch. That's incorrect. It's incorrect because any and each federal pimp apparently individually has the power to obstruct the other three branches. So what we now have is the 3 original, authorized branches, plus however many low level, low IQ federal pimps functioning as judges. That's a whole lot of branches.
  • Wagoner County (OK) Sheriff's Office warns of clickjacking scam

The Wagoner County Sheriff's Office is warning of a new scam where hackers are compromising accounts using clickjacking. WCSO said clickjacking is an old scam with a new variation. Clickjacking is an method where hackers, scammers or other criminals hijack your clicks on one website, to perform malicious actions on another site. You might think you are clicking a button on the site you are currently browsing, but that click will be used for something different. WCSO said hackers have now added another click to this attack method to get around modern browsers no longer sending cross-site cookies. In the...

Many Americans who died years ago are still listed as alive at the Social Security Administration It's a stunning claim about government waste, but one that is not true. President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk say the Social Security Administration is sending out fraudulent payments in the names of millions of people listed as 100 years or older who've been dead for years. "They're obviously fraudulent or incompetent," Trump said during a news conference Feb. 18. "If you take all of those millions of people off Social Security, all of a sudden we have a very powerful Social Security."...
  • State Auditor - TPS administrators misled investigators (Tulsa, OK)

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — It was supposed to be the end of a very long wait, the release of a state audit report on TPS that took two years. Anticipation couldn't be any higher, or so we thought. "The audit is complete and the findings are significant, but you’re not allowed to see them," said State Auditor Cindy Byrd, dropping a bombshell that TPS officials asked for a hold on the report's release. "Attorneys acting on behalf of the Tulsa Superintendent and the Tulsa school board have invoked Oklahoma statute 70 sec 5-127.1. This statute allows school districts the unique...

Just for grins, I typed in "how many audits did Obama order?" It didn't answer the question. Not even close. But there were plenty of lines peripheral to the subject of auditing in general. Pity we can't require something that functions as a public utility to actually serve the public. Private business, and all.

OKLAHOMA CITY — In his annual State of the State address, Governor Kevin Stitt announced the creation of the Division of Government Efficiency (DOGE-OK). The new division follows President Donald Trump's move to create a federal Department of Government Efficiency and was created by Stitt's Executive Order. The division's goal is to eliminate wasteful government spending, improve efficiency and ensure taxpayer dollars are being used effectively, Stitt said. The division will be within the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES). “Today, I’m launching DOGE-OK to keep the focus on flat budgets and limiting government,” Governor Stitt said. “Our top...
