As the question says, I was wondering how much the Soviet Union GDP was during the 80's? I ask because I've been reading "Reagan's War", and in it, it says the following. This amounts to a hefty price tag for a superpower that had total hard-currency earnings of approximately $32 billion at the time. That seems off to me. A little on the low side. So am I just misreading that, and confusing it for the GDP? Am I confusing GDP with something else? Or was that what the Soviet Union actually had per year?

I got a question for Californian FReepers and those knowledgeable about California. Anyone know where I can take a look at what it is the California state government is spending money on? I'd like to know just where it is all that revenue they take in is going.

Gephardt Fund-Raising Falls Far ShortTue Jul 15, 2:14 PM ET By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer WASHINGTON - Presidential candidate Dick Gephardt (news - web sites) fell short of his fund-raising goal by more than $1 million, raising questions Tuesday about his ability to excite Democratic donors and remain a top-tier candidate. The former House Minority leader, who hoped to raise $5 million from April to June, collected just $3.87 million — apparently placing him in a distant fifth-place among the nine Democratic contenders. Gephardt aides pledged to retool their fund-raising tactics as part of a broader reassessment of his...

Ok, say a family makes about $75,000 a year (Combined earnings of husband and wife), and has 2 children. What would they get back under President Bush's tax cut plan?

THE pool of potential candidates will not be vast when the new-look European Union comes to choose a president. The rules, as proposed by the drafters of the new constitution, stipulate that the president or chairman of the EU Council will be picked by the sitting national leaders in a majority vote. The candidate, must belong to their own club of past or present Prime Ministers or Presidents. Tony Blair is high among the few names that always crop up when EU insiders get around to speculating on the first Euro-president. The Prime Minister seems tailor-made for much of the...

So can anyone help me out, here? What I'd like is a list of the most common anti-war groups like ANSWER and NOIN, among others, a list of those who support them, and if possible, links to stories and articles which prove just who it is that makes up the foundation of the anti-war movement. I'd really appreciate some help in this. Thanks.

Alright, I caught O'Reilly thursday night and he was talking about how many Iraqi soldiers have been killed. Unfortunately, if he said how many have died I missed it. So does anyone know the number? I'd really like to know how many Iraqi soldiers we've killed, as well as captured. And while I'm here, anyone know the latest casualty figures on our side? Thanks.

GREEN RONIN TO PUBLISH TESTAMENT CAMPAIGN SETTING Biblical Era to Come to Life for d20 Fans January 16, 2003—SEATTLE, WA: This April Green Ronin delves into the past with Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era. Part history, part mythology, Testament is the d20 System campaign setting that's both instantly familiar and yet unlike any game world you have ever experienced. Veteran RPG and computer game designer Scott Bennie...

By JAMES GORDON MEEK DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU WASHINGTON - Iraq sent spies from Canada to New York and Washington this month to snoop and stir up anti-war demonstrations, according to a government report obtained by the Daily News. The classified document also reveals a plot by Al Qaeda-linked militants in Zimbabwe to attack American targets in that country and elsewhere if the U.S. declares war on Iraq.. It suggests the group, Tablik Ja'maat, could be a "conduit for communication" between Osama Bin Laden's terror network and Iraqi leaders. The threats, disclosed to U.S. spy agencies yesterday, are detailed in...

I'm posting this, cause I need some help from fellow FReepers. Only minutes ago I clicked on the above linked blog, which showed pctures of Anti-War protests in San Francisco (With color commentary by the writer of the blog ;) ). One thing that struck me about the protest is how, underlying it, was communism. It was at the heart of that protest. As it's in the heart of every so-called "peace protest". This guy can see it. So why can't the media? Or why WON'T the media? Well, you and I know why, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't...

OK I REALLY need to find this thread. It's a posting of an article which discusses a recent Democrat memo written by James Carville, Dick Gephardt, and 2 others (Most likely Paul Begala and Tom Daschle). In it, they talk about messing up the economy and the war effort in order to gain in the polls in 2004. I thought I had saved it, but apparently I didn't, and I can't find it. So can someone who remembers the thread in question help me out here and provide a link? Thanks.

***Reposting because I very stupidly put in a link to the control center of my country and someone went in there and messed around with it. Didn't turn out bad, as the Issue they decided for me (about the Death Penalty) was what I would've done, anyway. Still, I'd rather people not screw around with my settings*** Just thought I'd post this for all those like me who've always thought that they could do a better job if they were running the country. Well, this online game lets you give it a shot. It's called Nation States (click here for...

Anyone else hear about "Tremors: The Series" which'll premier in January on the Sci-Fi Channel? Personally I was looking forward to it, as I loved the 1st Tremors movie. The second one was ok, but the third one was better. What made the third one, "Tremors: Back to Perfection" so good, though, was Burt Gummer. He was in the first 2, but in the 3rd outing he was the lead. Yeah, he was a nut, but he was a lot of fun! And hey, he was blatantly conservative, too. So here I am thinking "Wow! They're actually gonna have a...

Alright, I've been meaning to buy a history book with detailed American history, but I'm leary of spending money on a Politically Correct piece of crud. So can you folks help me out, here? I'd like A) A book which focuses specifically not only on the USA, but on the history that led up the founding of the United States, and B) A detailed look at world history (Being only one book, I can't imagine it'd be all that detailed). I'd also like C) A book detailing World War II. Appreciate any and all help folks. Thanks.

Can any of you all help me out, here? I've been trying to find out what the ballot will look like this Nov 5th but haven't had much luck. So does anyone know where I can out what's on the ballot? I need to know ahead of time so I can investigate the choices and then inform my relatives as to what they should vote for.

German leader says no to Iraq war John Hooper in Hanover John Hooper in Hanover Tuesday August 6, 2002 The Guardian German chancellor Gerhard Schröder and his Social Democratic party yesterday broke ranks with America's other European allies by declaring at the start of their election campaign that Germany would refuse to provide troops or money for an invasion of Iraq. The SPD's top official indicated that Germany under a centre-left administration was ready to stay out, even if the UN gave its blessing to a war. Germany's rebuff to Washington came as Iraq further tried to split western opinion...

OK, what I'm looking for are links to any sites which have the casualty figures for the innocent people who suffered under Communism. Does anyone have links? They'd be greatly appreciated.
