With Hurricane Milton hitting winds of up to 180 miles per hour and at such a high speed, scientists are wondering if the storm defies the five category system and should go up to a Category 6.
Florida’s Gulf Coast braced on Tuesday for the impact of Hurricane Milton’s near-record winds and expected massive storm surge, which could bring destruction to areas already reeling from Helene’s devastation 12 days ago and still recovering from Ian’s wrath two years ago.
Almost the entirety of Florida’s west coast was under a hurricane warning early on Tuesday as the Category 5 storm and its 165mph winds crept toward the state at 9mph, sucking energy from the Gulf of Mexico’s warm water.
The strongest Atlantic hurricane on record is 1980’s Allen, which reached wind speeds of 190 mph as it moved through the Caribbean and Gulf before striking Texas and Mexico.
The storm, which CNN called 'the strongest on Earth in 2024,' was described by an Orlando meteorologist as 'nothing short of astronomical.'
'I am at a loss for words to meteorlogically describe you the storms small eye and intensity,' Noah Bergen said.

The places and timing is suspicious.
“Category 6” is sensationally stupid. Spinal tap would dial it up to a “Category 11”. Now that would impress me!
Tampa mayor issues dire warning before Hurricane Milton: ‘If you choose to stay … you are going to die’
I know that i’m impressed with the size of this storm. The wind patterns involved the entire gulf of mexico swirling into the center of the storm. This thing is a killer. Get out of the way of this monster people. And dont wait for help from the Feds in a red state.

It is hammering the Yucatan right now. It was at 175 Mph but has dropped to 155 Mph. It has FINALLY turned and pointed at Florida. First time it has actually headed towards Florida since it started.
Ignore the path, because it has not been close to accurate yet once. It still might not be, they have moved it to fit their narrative many times now. This thing could hit the tip of Florida instead.

The current trough goes across Florida between Cape Coral and Miami. Unless it moves north that will be the path.

Evacuation panic in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton sparks widespread backups and shortages
Maybe it’ll hit Havana. I’ll bet FEMA could get its act together to help them.
Its supposed to expand and weaken to a 3 before landfall.
The current small size is amazing.
Yep. It has a ‘Let’s erase a red state’ vibe.
Katrina did the exact same thing. When I went to bed, it was a category one, when I got up the next morning it was a category five More stupid sensationalism and fear mongering
Yep, it could stay south and go over Cuba. I think it will turn north though, just not sure it will hit where they want it to hit. If so then the wrong area is getting prepared based on bad predictions. They were screaming Tampa as soon as it started and had the path hooking more than 90 degrees towards Florida the whole time. But it didn’t follow that path, it went north towards Texas, then made a U turn back South towards the Yucatan, and now finally it is actually moving towards Florida only this morning.
I guess we will see how close they were. Even though they shuffled the deck many times along the way.
It’s calmed down to 155 now................🙄
I’m dubious about the actual strength. A hurricane is measured by wind-speed and lowest barometric pressure (which determines the intensity).
At the link below is a list of historically powerful hurricanes and their recorded minimum barometric pressures. The really strong ones have been in the high 800s and low 900s.
Milton seems to be in the mid to high 900s. Not really a contender.
https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/storminfo/#14L (various models show Milton to have a pressure of 984, trending to 971).

“‘If you choose to stay … you are going to die’”
Castor is just saying that to help her constituents -the looters.
I did get the FEMA thing, Ironically you would probably be right.
It’s back to a cat 4 and expected to be cat 3 by landfall.
In other words a hurricane.
Isn’t Tampa trying to turn into one of those libtard smart cities just like Maui? I seriously question what’s going on in this world, in particular regarding weather
