ST. LOUIS (CNS) -- St. Louis Archbishop Raymond L. Burke will issue a pastoral letter following his comments in a radio interview that Catholics commit a mortal sin by knowingly voting for a candidate who advocates abortion. "It is a serious sin," Archbishop Burke told The St. Louis Review, newspaper of the St. Louis Archdiocese. He added that a person who voted that way could receive Communion only after a "true repentance" and obtaining absolution by going to confession. "It's not right to support candidates who are for abortion," he added. The archbishop was in Rome to receive the pallium...

This is what i wrote to the police department, and part of what I wrote to Lars Larson (Lars I got more heated).

Today at the Salmon Creek Fred Meyers (Vancouver, WA), I was sitting in my car well my brother ran into Freddys to get a money order. Well in their across a row from me I saw an older gentlemen (the vandal) get out his car and mark the back windown of the pickup nexted to him. So when my brother gets back I said drive by this pickup I think someone might have done something to this car. So sure enough the guy took a marker to the back of the guys car and crossed out his Bush sticker. So we circle the parking lot and we see the vandle still driving around (obviously searching for the next vehicle). We then thought to confront him but I realized I didnt have my cell phone with me, so we decide to come home and contact you guys (the police). Well on the way out of the parking lot, I see a Mini Van with a black sharpie to their bumper over their Bush Sticker.

The nation's flu vaccine shortage has turned into a surplus, with nearly 5 million doses languishing in the federal government's hastily purchased stockpile, officials said Friday. With demand dwindling, it appears likely that instead of running out of shots this year, the government will end up discarding unused vaccine, they said. In response to the surprising turnaround, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta is poised to drop the remaining restrictions on who should get the shots, a move already taken by at least 17 states, in a last-ditch effort to minimize the amount of wasted vaccine....

A person is Pro-Life only to the degree to which they are willing to actually “do something about it”. I’ve been Pro-Life my entire life but until 7 or so years ago I did not do a thing about it. I still am not doing everything possible that I can do, but I am trying and getting better with time. President Bush, whom I spent much time, effort, and resources for on both his bids for the White House is Pro-Life with such exceptions and compromises as to make the claim an insult to the 6 million babies that have...

Mr. D'Antonio said after he agreed to head Catholics for Kerry, he was frustrated by the Massachusetts senator's reluctance to woo the Catholic vote.He said, for example, that he made arrangements for Bishop Anthony M. Pilla of the Cleveland Catholic Archdiocese and the Rev. Edward Glynn, president of John Carroll University, a Jesuit college in Cleveland, to appear at a rally for Mr. Kerry in the pivotal state of Ohio, but the senator passed."American Catholics had a lot to contribute to the election," Mr. D'Antonio said, adding that Catholic social policies and the Democratic platform align on education, health care,...

It's Over! Did the Catholic Vote Really Count? by Valerie Schmalz Part 1 The 2004 election saw some of the most passionate involvement by Catholics, including clerics, in the political process in a number of years. But when all was said and done, was there a "Catholic vote,"—and did Catholics make any difference in the electoral outcome? Will Catholics who espouse the Church’s teaching, particularly on the primacy of the right to life and on the sanctity of marriage, have any impact on policy and lawmaking going forward? IgnatiusInsight.com asked a number of Catholic thinkers and political activists those...

It might surprise some to see how the canidiates fared in the 10 wealthiest U.S. counties (2000 census). President Bush won in only four of the ten, comprising two states (one of which might be a bit shocking for some). So much for "the Republicans are the party of the rich". Presidential election results for the 10 wealthiest U.S. counties. (winner in caps) Teton County, Wyoming: Bush/Cheney - 5,124 - KERRY/EDWARDS - 5,972 Fairfield County, Connecticut: Bush/Cheney - 14,694 - KERRY/EDWARDS - 15,047 Marin County, California: Bush/Cheney - 26,141 - KERRY/EDWARDS - 73,946 Somerset County, New Jersey: BUSH/CHENEY - 67,505...

I swear, I am the only person here who voted for Bush, at least in my department. It is actually kind of funny. Some of the stuff I've over heard: "I don't understand why poor people (aka middle class people from Ohio) constantly vote republican". "It's all these backwards people deciding what is best for us (from a non citizen, BTW)" "Looks like you got your way, the evil man won (from another non citizen)" "We would have won but those redneck states keep voting for Bush" "I think the electoral process could stand to be changed" "I can't wait...

Ever since John Kerry's presidential nomination was sealed with a scream (Howard Dean's), certain revelations about the Life of Kerry have set off buzzers within me that say there's no way this man will be president. For example: There's no way this man who threw away his medals in protest -- but now says he didn't throw away his medals in protest -- will be president. There's no way this man who promoted a Viet Cong plan for U.S. surrender will be president. Those things. I'm calling these Kerry Gut-checks, simple facts and personal traits undecideds should think about before...

Subj: Kerry Scolds Vatican Over Gay Marriage Date: 10/31/2004 8:37:02 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: "Fr. Peter West" To: Kerry Scolds Vatican Over Gay Marriage Associated Press BOSTON - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry scolded the Vatican Friday for saying Catholic politicians like himself have a "moral duty" to oppose laws granting legal rights to gay couples. "I believe in the church and I care about it enormously," said the Massachusetts senator. "But I think that it's important to not have the church instructing politicians. That is an inappropriate crossing of the line in America." The Vatican had urged Catholics...

Politics And Logic Undoubtedly one of the most interesting figures to grace the stage of human thought was the 5th century philosopher Socrates. Even when on trial for his life, he refused to abandon the pursuit of truth. In defending himself before his accusers, Socrates says, "The unexamined life is not worth living" (Plato, Apology, 38a). Socrates argues that, for human life to have its proper value, there must be public discussion of the issues of life and virtue as well. Our nation is just hours away from another presidential election. Public discussion is intense. The pundits and the...

I attended today's Bush rally in New Jersey. It was AWESOME. I read the live thread this evening. To answer some questions...the crowd was only 900 people. But that was capacity seating for the venue it was held in. Outside, were several thousand, all lined up simply to get a view of the President arriving and departing. Why was the venue so small? This was a policy speech, not a pep rally. Tickets were extremely limited. I got one for the simple reason that I showed up to the local RNC office to sign up for tickets, wearing my military...

Saturday, I attended a rally in support of our President George W. Bush. It was sponsored by Moms4Bush.com. In my opinion it was a very successful event. Below are some of the highlights. The event began with an introduction by Linda Bergin, who is the head of the NJ Chapter for Moms4Bush.com. She did a superb job is putting this event together. Btw, she served in the Air Force. There were approximately 300 people attending this event. We said the Pledge Of Allegiance. A Father gave an invocation. Speakers:-Nancy - Founder of Moms4Bush.com. Spoke about the number one election year...

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — One fact led President Bush to choose New Jersey, a Democratic presidential stronghold, as the backdrop for a homeland security campaign speech Monday: terror and the Sept. 11 attacks are as crucial for New Jersey voters as they are for Bush's re-election campaign.

Why is Bush getting the bishop's blessing? Thursday, October 14, 2004 NEWARK'S ARCHBISHOP John Myers wrote an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal last month on why Catholics cannot in good conscience vote for a pro-choice candidate. It was titled "A Voter's Guide."Myers wrote that abortion and research that destroys human embryos are evil and that no other issue outweighs that evil in this presidential race: not the death penalty, poverty, or the war in Iraq. The archbishop did not name names, but his message is clear: Catholics can't vote for John Kerry. Since Catholics make up one-quarter of the...
