CHICAGO -- Police believe a suspected burglar who escaped police by jumping into the Chicago River may have drowned. Union Pacific police apparently surprised the burglar as he was breaking into boxcars near 33rd Street and Damen Avenue, according to Deering District Sgt. John Dowd. To escape, the suspect reportedly jumped into the Chicago River and tried to swim to the other side. The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. Monday.
