According to reports, Abdesalem Lassoued arrived in Lampedusa in 2011 on a small boat. After residing in Italy for a period, he later traveled to Sweden, but it appears he was subsequently deported from there. In 2016, upon his return to Italy, he was identified in Bologna as having become radicalized, expressing a strong desire to join the jihad and engage in combat. Intelligence services began monitoring his activities. Subsequently, he moved to Belgium. It is possible that yesterday he targeted two Swedish individuals due to his discontent with the country from which he had been expelled. The Belgian federal...

The ttb scenario has long been ballyhooed by critics as unrealistic. That such things only play themselves out in Hollywood movies and television shows. “Ticking bomb” scenarioArguments in favor of executive use of foreign torture information frequently refer to variations on the so-called ticking bomb scenario. In the usual version of this hypothetical scenario, an alleged perpetrator of an imminent terrorist attack is in custody and will reveal information critical to preventing the attack if tortured. Experts in the fields of intelligence-gathering, law enforcement and human psychology have forcefully discredited the use of this hypothetical situation to justify torture. It...

In the wake of the Brussels bombing earlier this week, the world is on notice that the threat of radical Islam is still very real. While in Cuba, Obama gave only 51 seconds of his time to speak about the tragedy that had occurred in Brussels, saying "This is yet another reminder that the world must unite. We must be together regardless of nationality or race or faith in fighting against the scourge of terrorism." However, after his speech instead of packing up his circus and meeting with European leaders trying to offer his support, our President remained basking in...

Belgian brothers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui have today been named as the two airport suicide bombers who murdered 14 people eight days after escaping a shoot-out with police in Brussels. The third member of the bombing squad - now known as the 'Man in White' - was named as expert bombmaker Najim Laachraoui, who is still on the run after leaving a suitcase packed with explosives and calmly leaving the terminal moments before the massacre at 8am yesterday. Just 79 minutes later a suicide bomber detonated his vest on a Brussels Metro train at Maelbeek station killing 20 people....

The Islamist terrorists' global war on the civilized continues unabated with Brussels, Belgium the latest target of an ISIS mass homicide. As I write this column, Belgian authorities report the coordinated terror bomb attacks on Brussels' airport and a city metro train station killed 34 and wounded almost 200 people. This Brussels attack lacked the strategic magnitude of 9-11. Its death toll is well below the 131 murdered in Paris in November 2015. The Paris slaughter was Europe's most deadly terror attack in a decade. However, the Brussels assault was executed with the same fanaticism and audacity we witnessed on...

Belgian police have released CCTV footage of three men suspected of carrying out the attack on a Brussels airport which left at least 14 dead and injured hundreds of others. It shows three unidentified men pushing trollies with suitcases past Zaventem airport's check-in area, two of whom are wearing a black glove on their left hand. ... The police press office said that it had not intended to immediately release the photo but given that it had been leaked and subsequently widely posted by media they were now confirming that it is authentic. "It is a photo of the suspects,"...

Brussels Mayor Warns: 9/11 Demonstrators Are Criminals From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Mon, 2007-08-20 10:56 A quote from Freddy Thielemans, the Mayor of Brussels, in an op-ed piece in the Brussels newspaper De Standaard, 20 August 2007:   I decided to forbid the September 11 demonstration “against the islamicisation of Europe.” […] Since 2001 I have allowed over 3,500 demonstrations. This is only the sixth one which I forbid. […] The right to demonstrate exists only inasmuch as it does not cause a disturbance of the public  peace and order. […] First and foremost the organizers have...

EU Finance Ministers Debate New-Look Euro Coins; Weigh Mixed-Bad Economic Outlook LUXEMBOURG (AP) -- EU finance ministers, opening a two-day meeting Friday, sought to make sense of a mixed bag of economic data from the euro zone, with Germany posting its strongest growth in four years but Italy sliding into recession. "This is a very serious problem," Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean Claude Juncker said upon arriving at the meeting he was leading. EU Finance Commissioner Joaquin Solbes said "growth in Germany was good news [1% 1Q GDP], but Italy is bad news." And Gerrit Zalm, the Dutch finance minister whose...
