The coronavirus pandemic has now claimed one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious retailers. Brooks Brothers — pioneer of the polo and uniform of the polished prepster — filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, as it continues to search for a buyer. The retailer, which is more than two centuries old, boasts of having dressed 40 U.S. presidents and countless investment bankers. Early to the office-casual look, it became known for its crisp oxfords and jaunty sports jackets. But rent had become a burden, and the pandemic torpedoed a sale process that began in 2019.

You know what the real problem is with the town hall protesters according to writer Robin Givhan of the Washington Post? It's not so much their ideas, about which she writes almost nothing. What really irks Givhan is what she considers their lousy sense of fashion which she criticizes harshly in her "On Culture" article. Last year, when Michelle Obama declared, "America is a mean country," I disagreed. As the white mom of multi-racial children, I knew our country had its share of race problems, but I never would have called America "mean." Apparently, Michelle's "mean America" comment was simply premonitory. Last year, I was a sweet, naïve, middle class, white Italian-American businesswoman and single mother. Since 'Babs' Boxer thinks those who are truly bringing their questions and concerns to town halls in this country are wearing 'Brooks Brothers'.....I propose that we 'dress up a bit' to 'punch back' with lots of sarcasm and humor (it gets them every time). BTW....Salvation Army is your friend when getting 'creative' (goes to a GREAT cause, too). Doesn't matter WHAT you wear. Go in comfort...whether straight off of work, etc. Just grab a neck tie, old tux tie, even cut one out of construction paper (whatever)....women can grab a feather boa, wear BIG dangly, bling-bling earrings, tiara, make a...
