Bowdoin College’s evangelical group will no longer be recognized by the college starting next fall. The New York Times reported Tuesday that the college is demanding that any student should be able to run for leadership for any student group, regardless of his or her religious beliefs, but the Bowdoin Christian Fellowship disagrees. “It would compromise our ability to be who we are as Christians if we can’t hold our leaders to some sort of doctrinal standard,” recent Bowdoin graduate and former leader of BCF Zackary Suhr told The Times. The incident at Bowdoin has occurred at many other colleges...

The hypocrisy of American academia centers on a craving for donated, capitalist dollars but with no caveats. The miserable state of university and college intellectual achievements runs parallel with the stream of leftist ideology which began back in the 60s, interestingly enough the years when the Bill Ayers, Bernardine Weatherman group began its reign of in-country terror. When philanthropist Thomas Klingenstein got the drift of how Bowdoin College President Barry Mills felt about the evils of conservatism, the wealthy realist took action. ”Diversity of ideas at all levels of the college is crucial for our credibility and for our educational...

It sounds like the setup for a bad joke: What did the Wall Street type say to the college president on the golf course? Well, we don't know exactly—but it has launched a saga with weighty implications for American intellectual and civic life. Here's what we do know: One day in the summer of 2010, Barry Mills, the president of Bowdoin College, a respected liberal-arts school in Brunswick, Maine, met investor and philanthropist Thomas Klingenstein for a round of golf about an hour north of campus. College presidents spend many of their waking hours talking to potential donors. In this...

Continuing his Maine Denial Tour, Al Franken has kicked the nerve factor up a notch with a shameless weekend speech to Bowdoin College Democrats. While the young, eager Brunswick-based students soaked up rhetoric faster than SpongeBob SquarePants, Franken somehow still managed to disappoint them, by refusing to answer any questions. Why? As Frank Chi, campus Democrats co-president, explains in the Times Record:

One thing is for sure in the 2004 presidential election-the Bush team should not count on too many votes from Bowdoin College faculty. Recently the conservative Center for Popular Culture did a study on the political bias in the administrations and faculties of 32 elite colleges and universities and found that Bowdoin has 23 Democrats to every one Republican. Republican professor Christian Potholm of the Government department said, "I believe there are only four Republican professors on campus, and I personally think it needs the attention of the administration and the Faculty Affairs Committee. Ideological diversity is as important as...
