U.S. officials charged an Uzbek citizen in Idaho with providing bomb-making knowledge and other support to an Islamist militant group, knowing that it would be used in an attack, authorities said on Thursday. Fazliddin Kurbanov, 30, a national of Uzbekistan living legally in Idaho, was arrested in Boise and faces a three-count grand jury indictment in Idaho and a single-count indictment in Utah, prosecutors said. They said Kurbanov provided information and money to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, which the United States has designated as a foreign terrorist organization. The group supports establishing strict Islamic rule in Uzbekistan. Authorities said...

Zoo Boise remained closed Saturday as police conducted an investigation into an overnight break-in at the zoo's primate building that resulted in the death of a male Patas monkey, one of two at the zoo. "It's very disturbing that someone would intentionally break into the zoo and harm an animal," said Sgt. Ted Snyder of the Boise Police Department in a statement. "We're doing all we can to find who did this." Police said they are seeking two males wearing dark clothing spotted by a security guard at 4:30 a.m. outside the fence near the primate exhibit. Both fled, one...

BOISE -- With a bill aimed at getting rid of the Occupy Boise encampment making its way through the Idaho Legislature, new pictures of people identified as Occupy members may not do much to help their cause. The pictures don't reveal any crimes, rather the Department of Administration says they are violations of the good neighbor policy, meaning it shows Occupy members taking things and using things they shouldn't. Since Occupy Boise set up camp in early November, the Director of the Department of Administration, Teresa Luna, says they have dealt with vandalism, violence, trespassing and theft. Earlier this month,...

BOISE -- A resolution supporting repeal of the amendment that gives voters the right to pick U.S. Senators has died in a House committee. The House State Affairs Committee voted 13-6 to defeat the measure encouraging the repeal of the 17th Amendment in the U.S. Constitution. The loss is a blow for Mountain Home Rep. Pete Nielsen, who claimed such a step was necessary to get the U.S. Senate more in tune with the needs of states. But several lawmakers said they were concerned with wording in measure, including a reference calling Congress an "arrogant bureaucracy."

BELLEVUE – The FBI is investigating after envelopes containing white powder showed up in government offices from Seattle to Boise. In Bellevue, a building with offices of the Internal Revenue Service was evacuated around 12:30 p.m. A female worker said she opened an envelope in the mailroom and white powder "poofed" out. "One worker was directly exposed and another worker was close enough nearby to be concerned. We've taken both of them to the hospital," said Lt. Eric Keenan of the Bellevue Fire Dept. Federal and local investigators converged on the four-story building. While Port of Seattle bomb dogs searched...

BOISE -- We are learning much more about the former Boise Police officer accused of lewd conduct with children. Stephen Young, 58, appeared before an Ada County judge this afternoon. Young worked for the Boise Police Department for more than 30 years and as a school resource officer for 10 years. We learned today in court Monday that the investigation against him dates back 30 years. Young appeared before the judge through video conferencing, dressed in a dark blue uniform from the jail. He did not make any comments and barely had any reaction when the judge formally read the...

Boise State's Cultural Center director, Ro Parker, is at the center of campus controversy...because she put a racist illustration on her Facebook profile. It began when Parker posted an image on Facebook. As the Boise State campus newspaper described, it's an "illustration" of "two black women, one of whom is pointing a finger in the face of a white man. He is holding his hands up in a position of semi-surrender. The caption reads 'shut the #### up, Whiteboy.'" (Perhaps ironically, Parker's goals -- according to her BSU profile page -- are to "plan programming that will raise awareness of...

Sham: Its the nature of the beast. The BCS is, was, and always will be a sham which is not as much interested in putting up the number one team against the number two team (or number three team and number four team) as it is in maximizing the amount of money they can milk out of their sponsors. Because of this TCU got paired up with Boise. Scam: No way does the BCS want to worry about Boise *and* TCU going undefeated, nor do they want a repeat of last season when Utah throttled Alabama and ended up having...

The likelihood of outrage seems inevitable this year in college football: The BCS controversy, which even President Obama has issued proclamations about, seems ready to explode, since six undefeated teams - two from minor conferences - survive with only three games left in the season. Two conferences, Mountain West and Western Athletic (WAC) are excluded from automatic participation in the BCS, and must compete for one of two wildcard teams, and both still have undefeated teams. But should a team which has gone undefeated and unchallenged take a slot from Alabama or Florida, which are likely to also go undefeated......

BOISE - A local high school math teacher has been arrested for obscene conduct in a public place. Chuck McClure, Boise Police public information officer, says Kyle Dennis, 37, was arrested after multiple instances of "obscene live conduct" that took place at two Boise retail outlets starting in February of this year. According to court documents, Dennis "knowingly engaged in obscene conduct...by manipulating his penis with his hands while walking around a Costco store with an erection." The documents go on to say that Dennis performed the same behavior at the Costco on 2051 S. Cole Road as well as...

The Boise City Council passed a controversial health care resolution Tuesday night by a four to three margin. Mayor Dave Bieter passed the deciding vote after listening to more than an hour of public testimony. Most of that testimony was against the resolution on the national health care crises. Less than a handful sided with the mayor who'd proposed the resolution. "You're not concerning yourself with city Business at all I don't think you guys need to comment on it," one man told the council just before applause broke out inside council chambers. The resolution reads "The city council of...

Several part coverage. First (and link is in title) is to video by local news outlet. Of course the "other side" is a release from the democratic party of Idaho blaming Bush and the "unnessecary" war in Iraq for the economic problems. Second part is from Tea Party Boise: Tea Party Boise Rally/March a HUGE SUCCESS!!! Wow is a word that could sum it up. There have been reports from 2500 to 6000 people throughout the day who came for a peaceful and successful protest. Keep in mind, the Treasure Valley has much less population in comparison to these major...

A buoyant Boise crowd police estimated at 2,500 people braved drizzle, temperatures in the 40s and the temporary absence of a sound system Wednesday to signal their opposition to a growing government. “Where’s our bailout?” asked Jocee Vreeland of Nampa, a stay-at-home mom who said she’s now looking for work because her carpenter husband is underemployed. “They give the automobile guys a bailout, but what about the carpenters and the contractors?” Vreeland said she didn’t really want money from the government, but that businesses should be allowed to fail. “When a private business fails, it fails. They made bad choices,...

Matthew Pond, 19, said that as he and two of his friends drove up to the mesa for the view, they passed a truck that was trying to go off-road. When they reached the top, the truck pulled up behind them and...

The Federal Aviation Administration has begun scrutinizing YouTube videos taken from the cockpits of Horizon Air planes. Although most of the videos have been taken down, the FAA and Horizon Air confirmed they are cooperating in an investigation into possible cockpit violations in which pilots allowed personal electronic devices to be used to record takeoffs and landings. With the exception of filming for training, it is against federal regulations for pilots or passengers to use such devices during takeoffs and landings, as they could interfere with instrument and landing system navigation radios. Cockpits also are supposed to be sterile environments,...
