Boise (ID) City Passes Health Care Resolution

The Boise City Council passed a controversial health care resolution Tuesday night by a four to three margin. Mayor Dave Bieter passed the deciding vote after listening to more than an hour of public testimony.

Most of that testimony was against the resolution on the national health care crises. Less than a handful sided with the mayor who'd proposed the resolution. "You're not concerning yourself with city Business at all I don't think you guys need to comment on it," one man told the council just before applause broke out inside council chambers.

The resolution reads "The city council of Boise, Idaho supports comprehensive, accessible, affordable, and universal health care for Americans." The resolution passed with some minor wording changed in one of the paragraphs to include tort reform. "We don't have the authority to change health care directly but it's of such fundamental importance we needed to bring a resolution before the council," Mayor Bieter said

A Tea Party Boise rally with several thousand people marched right in front of City Hall Saturday; many held signs say they opposed national health care. The group feels this resolution is a slap in the face of what they and many other Idahoans truly feel. "This is meant to show Washington where Boise stands where Idaho stands and this is not the way we feel at all," Tea Party Boise co-founder Brendon Smythe said. Now the group plans on making their voices heard in the voting booth when council members seek reelection.

The resolution was brought after requests from the National League of Cities, and U.S. Conference of Mayors sent requests to Mayor Bieters office.

Not mentioned in the print article was about 100 people showed up to the city council meeting on VERY short notice.

Boise Tea Party didn't send an alert out until they found out about it about noon yesterday. Some of the other local groups found out a bit earlier in the day. I posted an action alert on the Idaho forum here at about 10:00am when I found out about it.

Of those about 100 people 37 people were given the opportunity to speak. 35 were against, 2 were for the resolution.

Here is a youtube video of the television story posted by TeaPartyBoise

What a waste of their time. On the other hand, perhaps they should now be asked to shell out extra $$$ for healthcare since they think it’s so important.

The three that voted for it and Bieter need to be reminded of this come next election.

So, Obama has more strong arms out there pushing the cities to bring resolutions.

Wonder why no cities in Texas are putting out those resolutons? ROFL!

Obama won’t even set foot down here since the primaries.

Obama is coming to TX on Oct 16th, I think, to give a speech at A&M with GWB. I’m curious to see the reception that Obama gets in Aggieland since A&M is generally a very conservative school (with the cadets and all).
I live in DFW and I’m thinking of going to College Station that day to join the protest and ensure that Obama never wants to come back to TX again. lol

Unfortunately, Boise has attracted leftists from all over the US including an old leftist I knew from college. She’s nuts and adamantly pro-Obama. I stopped communicating with her after Obama was elected. It’s just pointless trying to educate these commie leaning old druggies.

Something tells me Boise is the liberal zit on the otherwise conservative face of Idaho.

The north end in particular. There’s one area that my buddies and I used to call “Little San Fran”.

Typical of State Capitols. They all appear to be in the lowest part of the state, (since all the cr^p universally seems to end up there.)

Sad how so much liberal human waste has been allowed to infest the great state of Idaho.

People who support universal health care should go move to any number of countries which already offer it.

And what was the ‘mayors’ meeting with Obama for?

"We don't have the authority to change health care directly but it's of such fundamental importance we needed to bring a resolution before the council," Mayor Bieter said

Hold on a moment, if I've read my Constitution right, health care is NOT in the powers of the federal gov't, so reserved for the states and the people. Seems to me the city has every right to address creating their own very favorite health care plan, if they so choose.

Use that vote against the liberals on the council. Run conservatives against them and cite their asinine support of socialist health care.

Start a recall election. Our town did when a councilman tried to end recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at city council meetings. He lost.
