Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., will resign shortly as chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of the chamber’s most conservative members, after losing his primary election. Good told reporters Monday that he had submitted his resignation to the caucus board, but didn’t provide a timeline for his official resignation as chairman. Sources familiar with the matter, however, told news outlets that Good’s resignation would become official by week’s end. In June, Good lost his primary in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District to his challenger, state Sen. John McGuire. McGuire had the endorsement of former President Donald Trump working on his...

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's revenge tour is sputtering to an end this week, with just one primary win to show for it. Why it matters: McCarthy's former colleagues complain he's effectively lit millions of dollars on fire and made it harder for new leaders to do their jobs. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is expected to win easily on Tuesday despite a McCarthy-linked PAC spending more than $3 million against him. "McCarthy thinks about me a lot more than I think about him," Gaetz told us. Between the lines: Multiple House Republicans and senior staff took issue with McCarthy's public...

Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good (R-VA) suffered defeat in the recount for his June primary, making him the first House Republican incumbent to lose a primary challenge this election cycle. Good lost the recount to John McGuire, a former Navy SEAL, who won the primary by just 374 votes. The recount, which began Thursday morning, narrowed the race by just four votes with Good losing by 370.

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL — Rep. Bob Good introduced the Life Act on Thursday, legislation that outlaws abortions of unborn babies “to the fullest extent at the federal level” by prohibiting federal dollars from being used for abortions. The Virginia Republican’s bill, which builds on a consensus from House Republicans to provide stronger enforcement mechanisms for pro-life laws, bans federally regulated health care programs from using funds to pay for abortions and federally regulated health plans from covering abortions. The bill protects mothers whose lives are in danger but does not make exceptions for rape or incest and would...

I've been on FR since the Bush years, first as a lurker and then more active during Obama and the initial Tea Party movement. Throughout that time, there always has been active and for the most part respectful debate on FR, that sometimes got a bit heated but we all basically wanted the same thing for the country, even if it meant different ways to get there. With the Trump years, I was skeptical of Trump at first in 2016 since he was an unknown, but then he won me over when he was actually President. You can find my...

In a stunning interview Sunday morning on CNN, Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Republican congressman from Texas, accused fellow Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of having sex with underaged girls. "It's my absolute honor to be in Congress, but I serve with some real scumbags," he said. "Look, Matt Gaetz, he paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties." This comes just a few weeks after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy said something similar at an event at Georgetown Univeristy. "I'll give you the truth why I'm not speaker," McCarthy said. "It's because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me...

Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that his Republican colleagues Reps Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Bob Good (R-VA) were “real scumbags.” Host Dana Bash said, “So, you voted yes on the foreign aid package,” Bash addressed Gonzales. “Do you have confidence that at this point, given that it is still possible that Marjorie Taylor Greene will push to vacate, to kick out of the Speaker’s chair, that he can survive?”

Several frustrated House Republicans are breaking with congressional norms to boost the primary opponent of House Freedom Caucus chairman Bob Good. The Virginia Republican was one of eight lawmakers who voted to remove their party’s leader, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, in October. McCarthy, who resigned in December, now plans to return the favor. McCarthy, and his friends on the Hill, including House Armed Services Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., have endorsed and fundraised for Good’s primary challenger, state Sen. John McGuire, CNN reported on Sunday. The delayed fallout from the removal of McCarthy forms...

Former President Donald Trump‘s penchant for punishing GOP detractors is trickling down to Congress as some of his most ardent supporters are using loyalty to the former president as a litmus test for the Republican Party. Since launching his bid for the 2024 presidential election, Trump has kept a continuous calculation of those who have thrown their support behind him and, more importantly, those who have not. For those who have considered other candidates, the former president has been quick to decry their disloyalty and even vow to make them suffer politically. “Bob Good won’t be electable when we get...

The House has a narrow (currently a 220-213 Republican majority that should be finalized at 222-213), and this slim majority has given the Republicans a unique opportunity to beclown themselves and sow doubt as to their ability to organize something as simple as a two-car funeral. The problem facing the new House majority is the same one that confronted Nancy Pelosi in the outgoing Congress. It takes 218 votes to pass a bill. If five Republicans defect, the bill goes nowhere unless the GOP starts corralling Democrat votes. Passing a bill with opposing party votes because you can’t get your...

group of Republican House members are calling on the Department of Justice to keep them updated on the investigation into Hunter Biden, saying that the first son’s foreign business dealings are raising questions about his father’s administration, according to a report out Wednesday. In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) and 14 other lawmakers argued that the first son’s interests in Ukraine and China involved potential violations of civil or criminal law by President Biden and members of his administration, according to Fox News. Delaware US Attorney David Weiss is looking into whether Hunter Biden...

A group of congressmen are looking into the University of Virginia (UVA).In April, I covered the story of Kieran Bhattacharya, a medical student who allegedly got a little too curious. In October 2018, Kieran attended a UVA panel discussion covering microaggressions.During a Q&A segment, he asked as follows:“Thank you for your presentation. I had a few questions, just to clarify your definition of microaggressions. Is it a requirement, to be a victim of microaggression, that you are a member of a marginalized group?”Presenter and Assistant Dean Beverly Cowell replied that it wasn’t a necessity.Yet — as Kieran observed — a slide...

Challenger Bob Good has ousted Rep. Denver Riggleman, R-5th in a rancorous drive-thru convention for the party's nomination. Voting in the all-day convention at a church in Campbell County concluded at 7 p.m., but party officials did not announce the results until after 1 a.m. Fifth District GOP chairman Melvin Adams said 2,537 delegates voted Saturday. Good said he received 58% of the tally. On Twitter Riggleman asserted that "voting irregularities and ballot stuffing has been reported in multiple counties" in the district. He added: "We are evaluating all our options at this time." As for Riggleman's allegations, Good said:...
