Colorado Rockies right-hander Chad Bettis is taking a break from baseball to undergo chemotherapy after discovering that his testicular cancer has spread. The Rockies said Bettis, who had a testicle removed Nov. 29, would undergo cancer treatment “over the next several weeks” in Arizona. There is no timetable for his return. Bettis said his oncologist found inflamed lymph nodes during a routine checkup last week and a biopsy showed “that my testicular cancer has unexpectedly spread, and I will begin a regimen of chemotherapy in the very near future.”

Jerome Bettis' father dies The father of former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis died today of an apparent heart attack while driving home after a workout at the gym, said Bettis' manager, Jahmal Dokes, a long-time family friend. John Bettis, 61, was found in his car by Bloomfield, Mich., police after he apparently pulled over while being stricken. Mr. Bettis, who retired last year after working 31 years as chief electrical inspector for the city of Detroit, attended nearly every Steelers game in which Jerome, the youngest of his three children, played. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, and...

STEELERS WIN SUPERBOWL X-TRA LARGE DETROIT - Mick Jagger moved up and down the field at halftime more easily than the Pittsburgh offense did for most of the game. In the end, though, Jerome Bettis, the Steelers and their thousands of rowdy fans wound up the big winners on Super Bowl Sunday. Save for a few big plays that changed the game, style points were hard to come by on America's annual football holiday. But to Pittsburgh, the 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks was beautiful _ a gritty grind of a game that included just enough flair to transform...

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Talk about a heart-stopping game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts. Fifty-year-old Terry O'Neill of Pittsburgh says he was watching the game at a bar when he had a heart attack just seconds after Steelers player Jerome Bettis' fumble at the two-yard line late in the fourth quarter. The play allowed the Colts to have a renewed chance at winning the game. O'Neill says Bettis is his hero, and he was upset with the idea the player might have ended his career with an error. "I wasn't upset that the Steelers might lose," O'Neill told the...

PHILADELPHIA -- Running back Jerome Bettis said he'll return to play for the Steelers again next season, his 10th with the team and 13th in the National Football League. Bettis, 33, told The Philadelphia Inquirer of his plans Friday when he was in Philadelphia for an asthma awareness promotion. "My body didn't feel good after the season," he told the newspaper. "I felt pretty rough. It was difficult for me. As the days went by, my body started to recover and I felt better." Bettis led the Steelers with 941 yards rushing last season, and started in place of Duce...

Okay FR football fans, this is it. Championship Sunday. We have the Patriots in the Steel City to battle the Steelers. We have the QB/RB/HB/All-around-fast-guy Michael Vick and his Falcons taking on the Chuncky Soup eating Donovan McNabb (his mama made him eat it) and the Eagles in Philly. Offensive octane in Philly, defensive titans in Pittsburgh. Sounds like it's gonna be a fun day today! Post your picks. Who do you think will win and why? Here are my choices, so take a peek and tell me where I'm wrong if I'm wrong. New England is -3 in Pittsburgh....
