ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A woman drove a station wagon through a wall of the Barnes & Noble bookstore, sending glass, wood and books flying. Three people suffered leg injuries. Two were taken to a hospital. The store was filled with shoppers at about 2 p.m. Sunday when the Subaru station wagon plowed backward through picture windows in a reading area in the store's northwest corner. The car took out the travel section and barreled about 40 feet through the bookstore before coming to rest in nonfiction. "I thought it was an earthquake," said shopper Chris Badgett, 27. "There was screaming,...

A Manhattan judge is siding with two women who didn't get dates. The judge says the Internet dating service Great Expectations has to refund all their fees after dashing their expectations. One woman was refunded the $1,000 she paid for a six-month membership. The other gets the nearly $3,800 she paid for a 54-month deal. The judge said, "There was a massive overcharge by the dating service." Great Expectations had claimed its operation was set up in a way so that the state's Dating Services Law did not apply to it. It plans to appeal the ruling.

Do women get less desirable as they get more successful?” Columnist Maureen Dowd posed those questions in Sunday’s New York Times Magazine in an essay adapted from her forthcoming book: “Are Men Necessary: When Sexes Collide.” Entertaining as usual, Dowd explored her premise that many women end up unmarried and childless because they’re successful by reviewing women’s evolution since her college days, which happen to have coincided with my own. We both came of age as women’s lib was being midwifed into...

I'm 40, the cute girl from upstairs is 23. When she stopped by to commiserate about loud neighbors, we had a beer, went dancing, and then had sex. Afterward, she seemed weird and left abruptly. I wrote her a note, "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable, but I love you and look forward to seeing you again." She hasn't looked at me since. Where did I go wrong? -- Mr. NeighborGrateful as you may be to a girl for having sex with you, it's never a good idea to let on. You could've had a future with her -- the...
