Last week we witnessed a watershed moment in American politics – an event that somehow helped erase past injustices, leaving in its historic wake a feeling of genuine optimism that had many of us exuberantly repeating that familiar slogan, "Yes we can!" I'm of course referring to President Bush's dog, Barney, biting a reporter on the finger.

President and Mrs. Bush continue their stay at Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas. The president will resume work with Congress on Social Security and judicial nominees, as well as seeking help from China on getting North Korea back to negotiations on its nuclear weapons program. President and Mrs. Bush emerged from their Crawford, Texas ranch today (looking rested and ready to go) via Air Force One from Waco to Washington, and will begin a Midwest campaign blitz Friday, including visits to Ohio, Missouri and Michigan in just one day. Today he led a video conferencing meeting with his working group regarding the 9/11 Commission report, and is making plans to implement the changes they deem necessary, some by executive order, possibly as early as next week. The President today announced his next choice for Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Alphonso Jackson in the Roosevelt Room in the White House. Mr. Jackson is replacing Mel Martinez who resigned last week. Laura spent the morning at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, where she read to sick children, and watched the premiere showing of “BarneyCam II: Barney Reloaded” with them.
