A newly deciphered manuscript dating back more than 1,600 years has been identified as the earliest known account of Jesus Christ’s childhood. The manuscript, written on papyrus in either the 4th or 5th century, had been stored at a library in Hamburg, Germany, for decades and was long believed to be an insignificant document. However, two experts have now decoded the text and say it is the earliest surviving copy of the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. “The papyrus fragment is of extraordinary interest for research,” Lajos Berkes, a theology lecturer and one of the two men who deciphered the document,...

Experts in Germany have uncovered a deciphered manuscript that has been determined to be the oldest record of Jesus Christ’s childhood. As CBS News reported, the 1,600-year-old document had been stored in a university library in Hamburg, Germany, for decades. It was ignored until Dr. Lajos Berkes, from Germany’s Institute for Christianity and Antiquity at Humboldt University in Berlin, and professor Gabriel Nocchi Macedo from Belgium’s University of Liège looked it over and revealed it as the earliest surviving copy of the “Infancy Gospel of Thomas,” a document detailing Jesus Christ’s childhood. The two experts said in a news release...

Robert Blake, the Emmy award-winning performer who went from acclaim for his acting to notoriety when he was tried and acquitted in the killing of his wife, died Thursday at age 89. A statement released on behalf of his niece, Noreen Austin, said Blake died from heart disease, surrounded by family at home in Los Angeles. Blake, star of the 1970s TV show, "Baretta," had once hoped for a comeback, but he never recovered from the long ordeal which began with the shooting death of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, outside a Studio City restaurant on May 4, 2001. About 3 1/2 years after the wife of tough guy actor Robert Blake was murdered, prosecutors finally make their case on Monday to show he killed her out of hatred, while his lawyers vow to prove Blake innocent by showing that Bonny Lee Bakley had many enemies. Both sides give their opening statements in court before a seven-man, five-woman jury picked earlier this month. The case has moved at a snail's pace since Bakley was found shot to death in Blake's car parked around the corner from an Italian restaurant where the couple had dined on May 4, 2001. Blake...

My fellow freepers. I have a few questions about the purchase of a shotgun. I have just discovered how much fun shooting clay pigeons at the local club. I have only been a couple a times and rent a Browning over/under from the club. But that can get expensive and its a different gun each time. The person that I took some lessons from recommended a Baretta over/under. My questions are semi-auto vs. over/under, brand, barrel length, 12 vs 20 gauge? I will be using the shotgun for clays mostly. Thanks in advance.

LOS ANGELES -- A man removing gym equipment found two guns in a barn behind the home of actor Robert Blake, according to a police search warrant affidavit. One of the guns was inside a wooden box behind a stereo cabinet suspended about seven feet above the floor. The man, who was removing the gym equipment Friday, "looked into the box and saw a blue steel gun in a holster," according to the search warrant. "He also saw a knit hat and a garment that he thought might be a pair of gloves. (The man) immediately became nervous and called...

LOS ANGELES -- A judge granted defense lawyers a later hearing date of Nov. 13 for the preliminary hearing for Robert Blake and his bodyguard. The two are charged in the shooting death of the actor's wife on May 4, 2001. Lawyers for Blake and his bodyguard joined forces Monday to demand that their preliminary hearing be postponed until November, saying they are overwhelmed by evidence just disclosed by prosecutors in the murder case. The attorneys said newly disclosed evidence includes a taped conversation between Blake's slain wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, and an unidentified person she was encouraging to murder...

On the evening of May 4, 2001, actor Robert Blake (Baretta, In Cold Blood) and his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, ate dinner at an Italian restaurant in the Studio City section of Los Angeles. Afterward, according to Blake, the couple walked the block and a half to their car, whereupon Blake realized he'd left his gun inside the restaurant -- a gun he was carrying because Bakley believed her life was in danger. Blake left Bakley in the car and walked back to the restaurant. Nobody in the restaurant remembers Blake actually retrieving anything: He apparently drank a glass of...
