The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy announced it will be giving an award to the American Library Association (ALA), an organization that has come under fire in recent months after its president declared herself a "Marxist" after being elected to serve in her role. The ALA will be one of two recipients of the "2023 Barbara Bush National Literacy Honors Award" during the foundation's signature event, the National Celebration of Reading, set to be held in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Oct. 11, according to a release by the foundation. Much has been written about the presidency of the late George H. W. Bush. But in her new memoir, The Man I Knew, Jean Becker — Bush's chief of staff for a quarter-century — zooms in on the 25 years that came after his time in office. "One of the reasons why I wrote the book is I really felt the American people, when he left the White House, still didn't really understand who this man was," Becker, 65, tells PEOPLE. "He was a bigger-than-life person, smart, funny and had a heart as big as Texas. Until the day he...

A new book by former First Lady Barbara Bush, published posthumously, gives fresh insight into her historic romance with former President George H. W. Bush. In Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice (That Go a Long Way), released Tuesday, their son Jeb Bush remembers an interaction between his parents shortly before his mother’s death in April 2018 — one that brought the attending hospital staff to tears. “The last time my mom went into the hospital, I think Dad got sick on purpose so he could be with her. That’s my theory, at least, because literally a day later...

At least three California Democrats are considering a bid to lead the Democratic caucus in the House. Red  ALTHOUGH in the Roman Liturgy St. Barbara is merely commemorated in the Office of St. Peter Chrysologus; yet the Church has approved an entire Office for the use of those Churches which honor the memory of this illustrious Virgin in a special manner. The Legend which follows, although of considerable weight, has not, consequently, the authority of those which are promulgated for the use of the whole Church in the Roman Breviary. Let us not, on this account, be the less fervent in honoring this glorious Martyr, so celebrated in the East, and whose feast has been...

My wife was not feeling at all well this morning as she accompanied me at a podiatrist's appointment at the V.A. When we got home her condition worsened. She could barely see, had a pounding headache and was very dizzy. So we drove to the emergency room of a close-by hospital, where they did numerous tests. She is in the midst of an ongoing stroke. Please pray for her.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) criticized Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz for selecting former Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina as his running mate, arguing the pick shows the Texas senator has “no judgment whatsoever.” Fiorina challenged Boxer for her Senate seat in 2010, and lost the election by 10 points. Boxer effectively used Fiorina’s HP tenure against her, criticizing the former CEO for laying off thousands at the California-based company and moving many jobs overseas. The failed Senate campaign loomed large over Fiorina’s foray into the 2016 presidential race, which ended shortly after underwhelming performances in the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire...

Laura Ingraham appeared on Tuesday’s Fox & Friends, and spoke out about the controversy swirling around Rush Limbaugh’s remarks to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke. Co-host Gretchen Carlson asked the conservative radio host whether there was a double-standard when liberals use slurs against conservatives. “When it was brought up on The View — I go on there every now and then and they’re always really nice to me when I go — when it was brought up on The View, Barbara Walters kind of laughed it off, like, ‘Joy, you call me that word all the time,’ and they...
