Barbara Branden, the first biographer of Ayn Rand with her penetrating and humanizing The Passion of Ayn Rand (1986), has died at age 84.

Branden and her then-husband Nathaniel Branden were Rand's closest associates and friends during the years she finished writing Atlas Shrugged and the years when the Nathaniel Branden Institute began teaching the principles of Rand's Objectivism in lecture form to a wider world.

The Brandens waited for Ayn Rand to die and then came out swinging. Their “admiration” for her was easily overcome by their narcissism and spite. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I read her book and don’t see it that way at all. Rand destroyed her marriage. That might create a little ill will.

Ayn Rand and her band of groupies were profoundly wicked.

Ayn Rand was a great defender of freedom, achievement, and the power of man’s mind to know and create. Barbara Branden wrote a great and honest book about this woman. Are these the “wicked things” that our smear artist decries?
