Most members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints already knew they were discouraged from taking their guns to church on Sunday, but the church is making sure that message is crystal clear by tweaking the policy to prohibit all lethal weapons. The previous policy called it inappropriate to have weapons on church property. It still includes an exception for law enforcement officers. The clarification comes one year after a fatal shooting inside one of its churches in rural Nevada and as religions around the country grapple with how to deal with gun violence that has spread to...

A Year-Round Season means Anytime is Hog Hunting Time - As the shadows lengthen across the golden grass-covered hillsides of California, I am perched on my chosen spot and glassing the valley below. The endless oak trees dotting the landscape are a parched palette of brownish and mottled green colors, and the foliage seems to be clinging to the promise of moisture sure to arrive. I sit with my binos glued to my eyes and scan every shadow on the hills looking for a dark spot moving along, like a hungry ant searching for leftover picnic crumbs. And soon I...

This is the case of Siwatu-Salama Ra, who was sentenced to two years in prison after using the display of a gun to protect herself, her mother and her daughter. Ra was pregnant at the time of the event on 16 July, 2017. The other party involved, Channell Harvey, contacted the police first, three hours before Ra did. The Detroit police assumed that Channell Harvey, the first person reporting the incident, was the victim. This is a common occurrence in law enforcement, which is why there may be a race to the phones to be the first to report an...

In the wake of recent terrorist attacks, liberal politicians preach taking guns away from everyone except people whom they control, like the police. Conservatives advocate putting guns into the hands of good guys. In the process, we are losing sight of our deadliest enemy: radical Muslims. Liberals tell us our most deadly enemy is the white male. Liberals have popular phrases to summarize this enemy, such as "white privilege" and "toxic masculinity." If they really hate white males so much, they should stop using the electric light bulb, made practical by Thomas Edison; nuclear power, whose theory was developed in...

For the second time since classes resumed at public schools in St. Louis this month, grief counselors will be on hand at an elementary school on Monday to comfort friends of 8-year-old Jurnee Thompson, a third-grader gunned down while standing in front of a restaurant with relatives following a football game. Since April, nine children under the age of 17 have been killed by gun violence in the city of St. Louis, and authorities say no one has been charged in any of the slayings. "We are all at risk," a frustrated St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said at a...

The California sheriff's deputy who launched an expensive, citywide manhunt for the sniper who shot him in his own station's parking lot made up the entire incident, police said late Saturday. Angel Reinosa, who is still a trainee with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lancaster station, said he had been shot in the shoulder of his bulletproof vest while making his way to his car Wednesday. He announced over his radio in dramatic fashion he had been shot by someone in the apartment building next to the parking lot. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department immediately mobilized a large-scale...

A new online tool launched by the Chicago Police Department allows the public to look up people who have been arrested on gun charges and whether they have made bail, prompting criticism by civil libertarians, according to The Associated Press. “If we’re OK with how things are going, then don’t look at it,” Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said of the Gun Offender Dashboard. “But if you want to know why we are suffering from some of the things we are, then take a look at it and come to your own conclusions.” In the meantime, shootings in the Windy City...

The parts — sights, stocks, muzzles, buffer kits and grips — arrived in three shipments and had a combined value of more than $378,000... The parts arrived over a period of three months and were bound for a legitimate US-based gun parts seller and distributor... The United States restricts imports from countries with which it has an arms embargo, including China. The US imposed an arms embargo after the deadly 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square. The CBP didn’t say to whom the parts were being shipped, who shipped them, and whether anyone would be charged in connection...

All the U.S. military services suffer a shortage of competent and experienced cyber talent. But with a tiny pool of eligible candidates willing to do work for the Department of Defense, hiring programs need to rely on more than just patriotism to be successful. The most recent attempt to shore up cyber capabilities comes from the Marine Corps’ announcement that it will create a Cyber Auxiliary. Here too, this program runs aground by asking for too much and offering too little. The Cyber Auxiliary seeks volunteers willing to provide the “training, education, advising, and mentorship” needed within the Marine Corps,...

Less than a year since the last mass shooting, the nation finds itself grieving again. On Monday, we watched in horror as news developed about a shooting at the Navy Yard located in Washington, D.C.; a federal military installation home to more than 3,000 civilian and military employees a mere stone’s throw from the U.S. Capitol Building. As the tragedy unfolded, the number of victims slowly rose from one, to two, to six, to finally 12 innocent people; and it became clear this was yet another tragic conclusion to a senseless act of mass violence. This is, however, a tragedy...

Due to the recent mass shootings, there is a major push for so-called “red flag” gun laws at both the state and federal levels. These laws are the latest tool for gun control advocates to confiscate guns from people based upon only tips and suspicion. No crime has to be committed to trigger an investigation or confiscation. Red flag laws violate multiple rights protected by our constitution. The Hill has an excellent article on how red flag laws violate more than the 2nd Amendment, including: What could possibly go wrong? Story at zerohedgefund.com
