Pennsylvania's traditionally private Amish community registered to vote in 'unprecedented numbers' after government agents stormed a local farm early in the year.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture raided Amos Miller's farm on January 4, sparking outrage among the state's Amish population, a source familiar with the matter told The New York Post.
'That was the impetus for them to say, "We need to participate,"' the source said. 'This is about neighbors helping neighbors.'
The raid by state officials came after reports of children falling ill from raw dairy products purchased at the farm in Bird in Hand, Pennsylvania.
'If you think about Amish people and their connection to nature, I mean, some of these people work in the fields barefoot to be closer to the earth,' the source told The Post.
While exact numbers of Amish voters remained unclear as of Tuesday night, horse-and-buggy rigs spotted at polling locations in the state.
This comes as Donald Trump won Pennsylvania, the biggest 2024 election swing state.
Conservative activist Scott Presler, known for his outreach to Pennsylvania's Amish community, has been credited for the voter turnout.

God works in mysterious ways
Amen!!!!!!
We love our Amish here in PA.
I have great respect for the Amish people. The company I work with does some business with an Amish business. I enjoy working with them.
Pressler was such an amazing powerhouse.
“..I have great respect for the Amish people....”
Same here...very much respect. Also, their women are really, really good cooks!!!

TERRIBLE, SLANDEROUS HEADLINE!
The Amish are one of the "historic peace churches" who obtain Conscientious Objector status from conscription and whose "fury" is not of the hot, passionate sort.
Passive aggressive, ja!
I think this is Bullsh**
First of all, Amos Miller operated on a subscriber basis. He only sold to people who pre-paid and came to pick up his product (or bought from a collectors co-op). It was not marketed to the public
Secondly, he had been warned by Penn dept of Ag previously. The goal of the raid was to shut him down, not investigate an illness
Third, I have never seen a report that anyone got sick from his products.
Raw milk is very interesting stuff. It’s like blood in that it is alive and has platelets. The breast reacts to the baby if it is getting sick and produces antibodies for it. “The Milk Book” is hard to find but is very interesting.
In a communist revolution, the Amish would be one of the first communities to be considered undesirables by the state.
There is a wonderful WWII propaganda movie called the 49th Parallel. Nazis are trying to make their way to the neutral United States from Canada, and run into a Hutterite community (Hutterites have numerous similarities with Amish), and assume that the Hutterites are pro-Nazi because they speak German.
The Hutterites knew better, of course. High production values, and DEFINITELY worth a watch.

The Amish introduced Democrats to the Book of Levi.
When my now 36 year old daughter was a newborn, she had a problem with EVERY milk (either nearly instant vomit, or bad constipation). (And her mother was unable to produce enough milk for her). Skim, 2%, whole, goat, and every type of baby formula we could find. The soy based ones, everything. As a last ditch effort my inlaws visited some Mennonites in Lobelville TN and bought raw milk from them. Not only did it “agree” with her, she LOVED it. (And it made THE BEST homemade ice cream!). So, we’re indebted to them, and I don’t believe someone got sick from it.
And good or bad, questioning or defying them leads to very lousy things.
I can attest.
They figured out electing the better person is in their best interests as well. How does light help under a basket? If the salt loses its flavor, how do you make it salt again. IE if you retreat from society and civics and their battles, how are self-described Christians going to make any impact?
Glad they figured it out. You can vote and still retain your form of Christianity.
I’m not keen on the accounts I’ve heard how they treat some of their animals. I think its a stifling kind of life, unnecessarily so, and it doesn’t stop any of them having the same temptations outside their communities, as we’re all fallen people. I think in many cases it increases their sufferings. But while there are lots of societal pressure on people to conform, people can leave and do leave, in small numbers.
Probably doesn’t help most of the time they have a generally negative view of outsiders, “English”. Kinda like the japanese view foreigners, never accepted no matter what.
