There Has Been No Loss of Wonders, Only a Loss of Wonder - A Brief Summons to Awe Msgr. Charles Pope • April 14, 2016 • A big problem today is that of rampant boredom. One would think, with all the diversions available to us, we would be one of the least bored generations in history. There are various forms of entertainment available to us quite literally at our fingertips: television, radio, the Internet, Netflix, video games, and more.Yet it still seems that we moderns are often bored. The reason for this, I think, is that we are overstimulated.The...

Although the study looks to investigate several aspects of this emotion, the initial -- and perhaps most intriguing-- hypothesis is pretty striking: the experience of awe will expand your perception of time. In order to prove this theory, and to better understand the effects of awe on the human psyche, scientists Rudd, Vohs, and Aaker conducted three experiments. The first was to test the aforementioned hypothesis that awe can alter time perception; participants unscrambled sentences, watched commercials (with large, striking images), and answered questions about personal beliefs in order to create a perceived time availability index. Having participants write narratives...

The 10 Days of Awe begin on the Day of Trumpets. The movie that plays out during this time is more intense and meaningful than any you've ever seen. While the righteous are on the Sea of Fire and Glass, the Wrath of the Almighty is poured out, causing devastation on the earth. But His judgment is righteous and true, and the power and glory that is to come will bring you to your knees.

I am looking this bright Easter morn at a Department of Homeland Security “Custody Receipt for Seized Property and Evidence”. Late last night, crossing the Quebec/Vermont border, my children had two boxes of “Kinder Eggs” (“Est. Dom. Value $7.50″) confiscated by Customs & Border Protection. Don’t worry, it’s for their own safety. I had no idea that the United States is the only nation on the planet (well, okay, excepting North Korea and Saudi Arabia and one or two others) to ban Kinder Eggs. According to the CBP: Kinder Chocolate Eggs are hollow milk chocolate eggs about the size of...

How bad things will turn out to be in the next few months is a matter of conjecture. What appears to be true is that the old certainties are finished. By how big a margin is the question. The arithmetic is brutal. The money that once supported the welfare state is gone. Big Government “Hope and Change” is dead because it’s broke. Broke. Broke. Ask the Fed. All the protests in the world are not going to change that fact. Neither is all the printing in the world. Worse, the ability to bluff is gone. The social shields that have...

Hugh Hefner announced this morning the news that Barack Obama has won the 2010 Playmate of the Year title in a stunning victory, given the fact that he is neither a woman, nor is 2010 yet here. "Barack's beauty and poise cannot be denied; he is truly a unique human being and an example for all.", Hef announced from the Playboy Mansion at 11:00 A.M. today. No word yet when the pictures of the prize-winner will appear in Playmate nor has Mr. Obama given a statement on this development.

It took Ronald Reagan 14 years to create a confident, optimistic Republican Party. Gov. Sarah Palin did it in six fraught days. Her introductory odyssey concluded with the great exhale of Wednesday night when the vice presidential nominee joined the thin ranks of performers who possess the power to astound.

NEW YORK — A quick-thinking commuter saved a teenager who fell on the subway tracks by pushing him down into a furrow between the rails, allowing an approaching train to pass right over them, police said. An 18-year-old man had some kind of medical problem Tuesday and fell onto the tracks, which are a few feet below platform level, police said. Wesley Autrey saw him fall, jumped down onto the tracks after him and rolled with him into the rut between the rails as a southbound train was coming in.- snip-

Tony Blair is facing a political backlash over his decision to order a new generation of nuclear weapons to replace the ageing Trident fleet at a cost of billions of pounds. Rebel Labour MPs will meet tomorrow to coordinate their fight against his plans, which seem set to provoke one of the biggest shows of opposition to Mr Blair from inside his own party since the start of the Iraq war. Opposition to an updated version of Trident goes far beyond MPs who object to nuclear weapons on principle. It includes senior figures in the military, who question whether this...

The Gold and the Glory by Ron Wood Meri Burlingame Mar 5, 2005 [Some added paragraphing; BOLD & COLOR emphases by Quix] The Gold and the Glory by Ron Wood TOUCHED BY GRACE HERE: http://www.touchedbygrace.org I am passing along to you the following account from Chuck Pierce. It details a supernatural manifestation of God's presence among worshipping, penitent people. I say "penitent," because only when we get low and humble ourselves, does God disclose his glory. I was in a similar supernatural setting among intercessors seeking God's intervention in our nation's election in Waco, Texas, in November 2004. We prostrated...

ARABS reacted with dismay and disbelief to television images of US tanks in the heart of Baghdad, with some dismissing the news as American propaganda and others signing up for jihad. While few Arabs believed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's regime could indefinitely hold out against the allied onslaught on Baghdad, many had expected the capital to put up a more ferocious fight than the southern city of Basra, which had taken British troops two weeks to dominate. That is why news of US troops in central Baghdad left many shocked and wondering whether Saddam had been bluffing when he promised...

MOWLAM: WE MUST STEP UP BOMBING Apr 1 2003 By Mo MowlamWHERE do we go now? Over the weekend journalists, generals and academics all suggested the war will be much longer than originally anticipated. All those politicians happy to use the crass expression “shock and awe” before war broke out, are now suggesting they knew all along the war could be long and drawn out. [Only some, not all]I have always been opposed to this war. And much of my objection was tied to my fear that it would only exacerbate the anti-western feelings in the Muslim world. My worst fears...

After the first two days passed since the initial attack on Baghdad, many Americans were wondering, "Where is the 'shock and awe' that we were told to expect?" Sources at the Pentagon told the media, "If you have to ask, it's not 'shock and awe.'" On the third day, massive bombings were targeted on Baghdad locations, and Americans were told that "shock and awe" had begun. In reality, "shock and awe" began when the very first cruise missile hit its target. "Shock and awe" is not simply a campaign of pummeling an enemy through relentless bombardment of missiles and bombs....

Donald Rumsfeld can barely contain himself. Don and company in recent days seem to never tire of telling us about how this American offensive is the most unbelievably massive display of military might in the history of the world. Whoopee. The American state has managed to put together the most powerful killing machine in the history of mankind. And just in time, too, since the Iraqis have sent half a dozen missiles at the invading army. Half a dozen! The Pentagon has informed us, however, that in spite of the limitless power so far displayed by Bush’s army, this is...

The US intends to shatter Iraq "physically, emotionally and psychologically" by raining down on its people as many as 800 cruise missiles in two days. The Pentagon battle plan aims not only to crush Iraqi troops, but also wipe out power and water supplies in the capital, Baghdad. It is based on a strategy known as "Shock and Awe", conceived at the National Defense University in Washington, in which between 300 and 400 cruise missiles would fall on Iraq each day for two consecutive days. It would be more than twice the number of missiles launched during the entire 40...
