Ruslan kubay was surprised to receive a draft notice in late January. Registered as seriously disabled since childhood—Mr Kubay is missing both hands—he falls under a list of automatic exemptions from service. Even more surprising, however, was the reaction of officials at the local registration office in Drohobych, near Lviv. Far from admitting their error, they doubled down and declared him fit for service. Only a social-media post and subsequent national scandal reversed the decision. “I was disgusted by how easily our blind people can start seeing,” he wrote on Facebook. Mr Kubay’s case was an extreme, but far from...

The problem with trying to sound tough when you’re not perceived as a tough guy is that you’re apt to get mocked mercilessly for it–in tihs case, with good cause.

It didn't take long for Barack Obama to fold like a cheap suit on the issue of meeting with the CEO of British Petroleum. All it took was one Facebook post. Politico noticed as well by reporting (emphasis added): Obama’s reluctance to go mano-a-mano with BP also generated political heat. In a Facebook post Tuesday, former Republican Vice Presidential Candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin scoffed at the president’s explanation on NBC and mocked the press for taking so long to press the president on the issue. “In all the discussions you’ve had with the White House about the spill,...

KORANGAL OUTPOST, Afghanistan — Only the lead insurgents were disciplined as they walked along the ridge. They moved carefully, with weapons ready and at least five yards between each man, the soldiers who surprised them said. Behind them, a knot of Taliban fighters walked in a denser group, some with rifles slung on their shoulders — “pretty much exactly the way we tell soldiers not to do it,” said Specialist Robert Soto, the radio operator for the American patrol. An American platoon surprised an armed Taliban column on a forested ridgeline at night, and killed at least 13 insurgents, and...

When he saw the passenger hitting the officer, Mr. Smeaton ran over and kicked the assailant. Mr. Smeaton has been interviewed on the BBC, CNN and other networks about his response to the attack in which two suspected terrorists attempted to ram into the airport's main...

When faced with the Swift Boat Vets commercials during his 2004 campaign, John Kerry basically assumed the fetal position and just hoped they would go away. Instead, that series of commercials turned out to be perhaps the most effective ads in political history. Kerry's strong lead early in August of that year quickly dissipated as a result of those commercials. However, Kerry how has had a change of heart. Now he is ANGRY and as indicated by this DUmmie THREAD, "Kerry: I'm prepared to kick Swift Boat's ass." Unfortunately for Kerry, even most of the DUmmies aren't buying into...
