The family of a 10-year-old Black boy who was arrested and placed in a cell for relieving himself in a parking lot say they will file a federal civil rights lawsuit against a Mississippi city unless police officers involved in the detention are fired. Quantavious Eason was detained and taken to a police station in Senatobia after an officer spotted him urinating behind a car outside a law office last month while his mother was inside getting advice on a housing issue.

Air Force Captain Nicolas Aquino was tackled and handcuffed in his own home after police received a call from a neighbor of a suspected burglary. Aquino told the officer that he was the homeowner and even showed identification when the officer first approached him; the policeman finally left after Aquino showed him bills with his name and address. However, that wasn’t the end of it. Months later, Aquino learned that the police station had issued a warrant for him, claiming that he resisted arrest and obstructed an officer. Aquino, a model airman who has been featured in Air Force promotional...

Police were in the process of arresting about 100 Occupy protesters for failing to disperse Saturday night, hours after officers used tear gas on a rowdy group of demonstrators who threw rocks and flares at them and tore down fences. Police Sgt. Christopher Bolton said the arrests came after protesters marched through downtown Oakland a little before 8 p.m. Saturday, with some of them entering a YMCA building. Meanwhile, about 100 police officers surrounded City Hall while others were swept the inside of the building to see if any protesters broke in.

The California Highway Patrol has begun arresting protesters at the Capitol, after warning about 65 to leave the building after its 6 p.m. closing. The daylong protest, organized by the California Teachers Association, drew about 1,000 protesters for various activities. About 150 moved into the rotunda in late afternoon, and some of them refused to leave at closing time. .. Mike Parker, a community college teacher who expected to be arrested, said the protest is to provide a "moral witness...What's happening in this society is totally out of kilter," he said.

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A policeman in a small New Zealand town did not let the fact that he was naked hold him back from chasing a thief trying to steal his car. The off-duty constable was asleep at his home in Balclutha, in the lower South Island, when his wife woke him in the early hours, the New Zealand Press Association reported. When the policeman realised the sound his wife heard was someone attempting to start the couple's car, he didn't let the fact he was stark naked hold him back, bursting out the door with nothing more than a...

Less than 24 hours after anti-Bush peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested for "unlawful conduct" at last night's State of the Union address, the charge is being dropped and federal officials are apologizing. "The officers made a good faith, but mistaken effort to enforce an old unwritten interpretation of the prohibitions about demonstrating in the Capitol. The policy and procedures were too vague," said Capitol Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer. "The failure to adequately prepare the officers is mine." Sheehan was taken into custody shortly after unzipping her jacket, revealing her T-shirt, which had the message, "2245 Dead. How many...

The government’s Assistant Attorney general, Shai Nitzan, said that it might be appropriate to keep Jews under arrest without indictment or trial as the date for executing the government’s plan to expel Jews from their homes in the Gaza region approaches. The procedure for arresting people without due process rights of indictment and trial, known as administrative detention, has been considered a measure to be used only for jailing suspected terrorists who pose an immediate threat to the country. Administrative detention has also been used on rare occasions against Jewish citizens, persons who were deemed dangerous because of their extremely...
