A man was arrested and will be charged Friday after he dove naked into the aquarium at a Bass Pro Shop in Leeds, Alabama. Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said the incident happened shortly before the store closed. The 42-year-old man reportedly began acting erratically and intentionally drove a vehicle into a pole in the store parking lot, the chief said. The man’s family told police he suffers from mental illness. After the crash, police said the suspect exited the vehicle, stripped his clothes off and ran into the Bass Pro Shop. Once inside, the man jumped into the aquarium.

The largest free standing aquarium in the world, containing close to 1,500 exotic fish, exploded early Friday morning in Berlin, injuries at least two people. The explosion of the AquaDom aquarium caused a torrent of water, fish and debris to flood the street outside the building, Berlin emergency officials said, according to CNN. The AquaDom was housed in the main floor of the Radisson Collection hotel in Berlin’s DomAquarée business complex. Monterey Bay Aquarium team caught this barreleye fish on camera. According to the aquarium, they're an elusive species that lives 2,600 feet under the ocean. The deep-sea fish has a transparent head with tubular eyes. These fish usually grow to about six inches and can see through their forehead. The aquarium said the aquarist were on a deep sea collection trip with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. Authorities searching for a missing 65-year-old man found human remains inside a fish tank in his San Francisco home, police announced Tuesday. A relative of Brian Egg called authorities and reported him missing on Aug. 7, sparking the initial investigation, according to a San Francisco Police Department news release. VIRGINIA BEACH The Virginia Aquarium is releasing a dozen Kemp's ridley turtles rehabilitated in Virginia and Massachusetts to make space available for any turtles affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The aquarium says the endangered sea turtles will be released at 11 a.m. Tuesday off Cape Charles. The release is a joint effort by the Virginia Aquarium and the New England Aquarium. Ten turtles suffering from cold stunning were found in Massachusetts' Cape Cod Bay in November and December. Cold stunning occurs when sea turtles are exposed to extremely cold water. The Newport Aquarium has upgraded its exhibit of bizarre sea creatures to include more than a dozen new species. Some of those include Japanese spider crabs, electric flame scallops and spotted garden eels. Chris Pierson, the aquarium's husbandry director, said the purpose of renovating the Bizarre and Beautiful Gallery is to make things "more family-friendly, more kid-friendly." The gallery re-opened Friday with a new configuration allows more visitors. It also gives children better access to the exhibits by putting some tanks closer to the floor. The aquarium also used the renovation to upgrade equipment and reduce energy costs.

TAMPA, Fla. – The driver and the child in her lap survived when a pickup truck slammed into a 1,500-gallon aquarium at Tampa International Airport. The tropical fish were not so lucky. Airport officials said 36-year-old Yamile Campuzano-Martine lost control of her truck and drove into the saltwater tank outside the American Airlines baggage claim Monday night. CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) -- A large aquarium has likely saved a Cedar Rapids home that caught fire. The aquarium shattered at Ricky Kuda's home Friday morning after a transformer beneath the aquarium caught fire. The water from the aquarium extinguished the fire. Cedar Rapids Fire Department spokesman Greg Buelow says the damage would have been much more extensive if the aquarium hadn't shattered. Buelow says the aquarium was about 4 feet wide. No one was injured in the fire, but all of the fish in the tank died.
