President Joe Biden, 81, appeared to have a difficult time on Wednesday speaking clearly during a campaign rally. Biden, whom special counsel Robert Hur characterized as “an elderly man with a poor memory,” often struggles with gaffes. About one-third of Democrats doubt Biden’s mental fitness, a Harvard/Harris survey recently found. Another poll revealed 82 percent of Americans harbor concerns about his physical and mental health. Only about one-quarter of voters say Biden is physically or mentally fit to serve a second term, Quinnipiac found. Wednesday’s speech was no different when he read the word “pause” from the teleprompter instead of...

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., struggled to drum up support amid her remarks about the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) on Wednesday, insisting the audience should clap throughout certain parts of her speech. Joined by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., at the White House to boast about the measure on its one-year anniversary, Pelosi touted what she believes to be benefits of the IRA, which she described as a "remarkable accomplishment." Pelosi said there is "no more urgent task than saving our planet," claiming the issue of climate change is a "health issue," an "economic issue," and a "moral...

The Oxford University student council is lobbying the prestigious British university to end applause, arguing that it could trigger anxiety and was unfair to disabled students. The Oxford Student reported Wednesday that the council had passed a motion to "mandate the Sabbatical Officers to encourage the use of British Sign Language (BSL) clapping, otherwise known as ‘silent jazz hands' at Student Council meetings and other official SU events," and to "lobby the University" to make similar changes. "Loud noises, including whooping and traditional applause, are argued to present an access issue for some disabled students who have anxiety disorders, sensory...

Outlined in a exposé by TechCrunch, Facebook's latest gambit to acquire user data pays participants $20 plus referral fees for nearly unfettered access to iOS usage patterns and activity. Through the Facebook Research app for iOS, which has been available since 2016, the company is able to collect data by enabling root access to a user's device. Marketed as a "social media research study," the VPN app is distributed through beta testing services Applause, BetaBound and uTest, the report says. Facebook relies on the three software testing platforms to enable sideloading of the Research app, effectively bypassing Apple's App Store...

SOUTHINGTON, CT — In alphabetical order, a majority of Democratic and one unaffiliated candidates for governor endorsed the idea of installing electronic tolls on Connecticut’s highways and received applause for it. The nine candidates participated in a forum Friday sponsored by the Connecticut Construction Industries Association. The same group sponsored a similar forum in December for the Republican gubernatorial candidates as well. None of the candidates who are still in the “exploratory†phase of their campaigns for governor were invited to either forum — only the declared candidates. The problem: Connecticut’s special transportation fund will start running a deficit in...

Conner Mertens '17 came out as bisexual today in an article in Outsports magazine — the first college football player in the United States to do so publicly while still playing. In response to the announcement, his team — and the Willamette community — rallied around Mertens while he issued a statement to the media. Overwhelmed by well wishes, Mertens said via Twitter, "Absolutely humbled and speechless right now. If you know me, you know how crazy that second part is. I can't say thank you enough." A native of Kennewick, Wash., Mertens said in the Outsports article that he...

National Security Agency Director Gen. Keith Alexander was met with both heckling and applause at the Black Hat information security conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday. Ever since the leaks from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden thrust the agency’s domestic surveillance policies into the limelight and sparked widespread public debate, Alexander and other intelligence officials have been on the hot seat, in a persistent state of defense against seemingly unending press reports.

The other day outgoing White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told us they were surprised by the applause at the pep rally memorial service in Tucson. I will say that I read the speech several times and thought that there wouldn’t be a lot of applause if any. I think many of us thought that. But I think there was a celebration, again, of the lives of those who had been impacted. Not just at that grocery store but throughout the country. And I think that, if that is part of the healing process, then that’s a good thing. That’s...

As President Barack Obama prepares to deliver his first State of the Union Address, he faces some bleak economic predictions from congressional budget analysts. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Tuesday projected slow improvements in employment and warned of an unsustainable longer-term fiscal situation against a background of rising debt. The CBO projections came as the president vows to press ahead to achieve major policy changes he says the American people expect, such as health care and financial system reform, while recognizing signals sent by voters in Massachusetts where a Republican was elected to a traditionally Democratic Senate seat. As...

Democratic election expectations were crumbling Monday after a leading Senate recruit declined to run and another lawmaker announced his retirement. Rep. Marion Berry’s (D-Ark.) departure and Beau Biden’s (D) decision not to pursue the upper chamber came after Democrats said they expected the opposite. And now the party, which has said it doesn’t expect lots of retirements, is facing the possibility of several more. It is the latest bad news for Democrats in a cycle with a growing number of open seats and candidates bowing out. Berry became the sixth House Democrat to retire from politics, and all of those...

New Delhi: A man strangled his pregnant daughter and her lover and put their bodies on display to an applauding village in Haryana on Friday. Twenty-seven-year-old Jasdev Singh and his childhood sweetheart Sunita, who was six-months pregnant, belonged to Karnal village — an area dominated by the Jat community — which considers people from the same village as siblings. The two of them secretly continued their affair even after Sunita was married. Last year, Sunita eloped with Jasdev. However, when Sunita's family finally found them and got to know that she was pregnant, they beat up the couple and strangled...

DALLAS – It's probably safe to say that you have arrived as a politician when your audience applauds when you blow your nose. Yes, just a day before a debate in Texas, Sen. Barack Obama has a head cold. And about a half-hour into a speech here, the Illinois Democrat announced that he had to take a quick break. "Gotta blow my nose here for a second," Obama said. ~~snip~~ The near-capacity audience at the Reunion Arena, which his campaign said totaled 17,000, broke out in a slightly awkward applause.

The True Lover Of God Mary Lindow Jun 25 2006 06:04PM THE TRUE LOVER OF GOD DOES NOT NEED TO BE LAVISHED UPON BY MAN THE PRESENT EVILS AND PRESSURES OF OUR TIME ARE NOT NEW TO GOD OR......TO THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD! The Bride of Christ has been either over stroked with false platitudes or has been allowed to be spoiled with a gluttony of self-love, self-analysis, and self-promotion. All members of the Lord’s Body, leaders and simple followers, have all had the virus of “I WANNA BE SOMEBODY” attempt to sidetrack and infect the human nature side...

Some fear backlash, job loss; others say protest shows U.S. dependency (Charlotte, NC) - With a nationwide pro-immigrant boycott set for Monday, Latinos in Charlotte are torn between allegiances to the movement and fears that joining the protest may cost them their livelihoods. Millions across the country are expected to skip work and school as part of "A Day Without Immigrants" to dramatize their importance to the U.S. economy. But recent federal raids and a vow to crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants have heightened anxiety in Latino communities. Many educators, unions and immigrants oppose the boycott, and...

I spoke with Tom Lipscomb a short time ago. Tom did great reporting for the New York Sun about John Kerry's phony war record and the plot in Kansas City. He has been nominated for a Pulitzer for his reporting, but is not hold his breath. He knows they will never award it to him because of the subject of the reports. Tom is named in a song on the new parody CD, YOU'BE BEEN FREEPED, Vol. 1. We did a version of BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS by Johnny Horton that became the BATTLE OF KANSAS CITY. Our kudos to...
