Insurgents have targeted military and police facilities in central and northern Iraq. The insurgents have employed suicide bombers as well as units of up to 100 fighters in attacks that killed dozens of police and soldiers over the weekend.     The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s security services “Asaysh” has arrested some former members of the militant group, Ansar al-Islam, reported the Sulaimani based Kurdish newspaper, Aso, in its today’s edition. Aso said that sources within “Asaysh” have said on the condition of anonymity that following the twin suicide bombings in Hewler (Irbil) and Halabja, many former members of Ansar al-Islam and some current members of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (Komall) were arrested for interrogation.

    Baghdad, 15 June (AKI) - Iraqi police in the city of Kut, south of Baghdad, have arrested some 39 alleged members of the terrorist group Ansar al-Sunna in various operations over the past weeks. A security official told the US-funded Radio Sawa that among those detained was an Egyptian citizen and the driver of a leading terrorist being sought by the Iraqi authorities. The operations which led to the arrests were carried out between 30 May and 13 June.
