Baghdad, 15 June (AKI) - Iraqi police in the city of Kut, south of Baghdad, have arrested some 39 alleged members of the terrorist group Ansar al-Sunna in various operations over the past weeks. A security official told the US-funded Radio Sawa that among those detained was an Egyptian citizen and the driver of a leading terrorist being sought by the Iraqi authorities. The operations which led to the arrests were carried out between 30 May and 13 June.

That's good news, except the part about them just being arrested.
And 39 are still alive?
These guys sure seem to have a lot of drivers?!
latest on the rescue of the Australian...bsed on a tip:
AP: Australian Rescued by Iraqi, U.S. Forces ~~ An Update from the AP
According to one milblog, these guys sing like canaries when arrested. Our troops make an extra effort to take them alive since it will lead to more arrests. Shame. People like that should be crucified - with ropes rather than nails.
good news.
A couple of comments. We hear the left discrediting the fact that foreign fighters come to Iraq, just because there arent as many foreign fighters captured as there are Iraqi "insurgents." But does anyone consider the money and other resources these foreigners bring with them to fund the "insurgency?" Also, I read somewhere (don't remember where, sorry yall) that the large majority of the suicide bombers are foreign, which would explain why not as many foreigners are arrested. Just a few thoughts.
But the arrests are good news. Hopefully that turns into good information and more arrests. But the MSM wont report as much on this. 39 deaths would far outweigh the many more lives possibly saved by these 39 arrests. "Give us dirty laundry!"
Good Catch of terrorists... 39
they seem to be catching them by the bushel these days!
Thanks for the good news about the capture of top aides of Zarqawi.
It could be. However, the coalition force is having a hard time to investigate in depth about the suicide bombers. Terrorist groups within Saudi Arabia and North Africa has offered help for terrorist groups in Iraq, which is likely to be part of the suicide bombers. Saudi Arabia and Syria are the top two providing foreign terrorists. In North Africa, Algeria and Morocco seems to be the top two. Accroding to certain sources, they are informed to enter Iraq from Syria, or through Turkey. However, it is not clear how they would enter through Turkey into Syria and then Iraq. It is expected the sea to be one the routes but that is only a guess.

Earlier Wednesday, two former Iraqi military officers - a father and a son - with alleged links to al-Qaida were arrested while planting roadside bombs, the Interior Ministry said.
The two are top aides to Jordanian-born Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, head of the al-Qaida in Iraq terrorist group, and were arrested near Khaldiyah, 75 miles west of Baghdad, said Col. Adnan Abdul Rahman, a ministry spokesman. He identified them as former Maj. Gen. Abid Dawood Salman and his son, former Capt. Raid Abid Dawood.
Yeah. I remember reading a thread yesterday that said estimates put Algeria as providing Iraq with 20% of the foreign fighters. Not state-sponsored, but you know.
Totally true. A co-worker of mine was in Iraq for 14 months and was telling us that these guys will almost always give up whatever information we want to know. They'll turn on their own family if necessary. The thing that scares them the most is the threat that U.S. forces will turn them over to the Iraqis. The Iraqis don't care about being PC and will do whatever they feel is necessary to get information.
I know what you meant. Actually, I didn't realize you had used the word "provide" as well. I was just clarifying for my own post.
On my current job, our clients are from Algeria, nice as hell. It's funny too, cuz they're French-speaking Arabs. They speak Frenchabic!
Each one of the 39 ..will give you 39 more .....and those 39 will give you 39 more.
Killing sometimes isn't a good thing.
