BAGHDAD [MENL] -- Sunni insurgents have intensified their campaign against Iraq's military and security forces.
Insurgents have targeted military and police facilities in central and northern Iraq. The insurgents have employed suicide bombers as well as units of up to 100 fighters in attacks that killed dozens of police and soldiers over the weekend. Iraq has 168,500 trained police and soldiers.
The bloodiest attacks took place on Sunday in northern Iraq. The U.S. military said two suicide bombers blew themselves up in separate attacks in which at least 31 people were killed.
The offensive was said to have been directed by Al Qaida's commander in Iraq, Abu Mussib Al Zarqawi. On June 25, Iraqi security forces captured the commander of the Al Qaida-aligned Ansar Al Sunna, Hilal Hussein Al Badrani, near Mosul. Al Badrani was identified as a Saudi national and close to Al Zarqawi.

This is good news. The terrorists have figured out that they can't win by attacking ordinary Iraqis, so they are going after the police and Iraqi army. But they are outnumber at least 10 to one, so this isn't going to work, either, in the end.
The favor ought to be returned by going after the tribal and religious power structure of Sunni insurgents.
But if it keeps up this way, it'll be 9 to one, 7 to one, 5 to one... Why don't we use some of that vaunted technology and just get it over with.
Of course they will not report how many terrorists were killed or captured during these attacks.
That would require the USA and Iraqi forces to start fighting war, something which I don't see happening.
The media got control of our campaign for the last six months, and now it's only a matter of time
President Bush failed our troops on the ground when he decided to go PC, then fell asleep at the wheel.
LESSON; Don't go on a war footing and then cave to the NYT
Loud noises from the U.S. Senate have caused the enemy to smell fear. The Demos are acting just like they did during Vietnam - cowards.
